Fans of indie music will soon have a new destination on BBC Sounds, with the BBC planning to launch a dedicated 24-hour Radio 6 Music stream focused entirely on indie rock and pop.
The new station extension, available exclusively through BBC Sounds, is expected to launch in summer 2026 and will be accessible via the BBC Sounds app, website and smart speakers.

Sara Cox has been announced as the new host of BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show.
The much-loved broadcaster, who currently presents the station’s teatime programme, will move to the flagship morning slot in the summer.
Sara said she was “ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed” to be taking on the role, describing it as a dream she has had since joining Radio 2.
