Unofficial Mills is an independent fan site covering UK radio. It has been running since 2004. It isn’t connected to, endorsed by or paid by the BBC, Global, or any presenter or station it covers.
How our radio updates are produced
Our daily updates on shows across Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music and Capital are produced with the help of AI:
- Each programme is transcribed automatically after it’s broadcast.
- An AI system (Claude, made by Anthropic or ChatGPT) drafts a short write-up using only that transcript and the station’s published programme listing.
- Every update is reviewed by a person before it’s published. We check headlines, names, quotes and facts, and we edit or drop anything that doesn’t stand up.
We tell the AI not to invent anything: no guests, quotes, reasons or details that aren’t in the programme itself. We don’t speculate about why a presenter is absent or why a change has been made. News bulletins, weather and travel are left out. We only cover the programme itself.
Automatic transcription sometimes mishears words, especially names. That’s why every post is checked before it goes live, and why each update says it was produced using AI transcription.
Quotes and copyright
We quote briefly from programmes, usually a few words, to report what was said. We don’t publish full transcripts or broadcast audio. Programme images belong to their owners.
Accuracy and corrections
We aim to get things right. If we don’t, we’ll correct it quickly. If you spot an error, please get in contact. Where a correction changes the meaning of a story, we’ll note it at the foot of the article.
Independence and advertising
The site is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no say over what we cover or how we cover it, and we don’t accept payment for coverage.
The forums and chatbox
Posts in our forums and chatbox are written by members and reflect their own views, not the site’s. Members follow our community rules, and we moderate to keep discussion friendly and on topic.
