  1. the current dance anthems format of splitting the hours up into 1 hour blocks over three hours has always been there since Danny left and MistaJam took over. Honestly dont think it would make much difference either way. Regardless theres been push back and challenge of it as it is now @radio1fan
  2. Main prediction is that since Ben Cooper at Bauer sees Hits Radio as a Radio 1.5 maybe a past presenter of Radio 1 joins Hits Radio or even current one like Adele on her way out see them having a shuffle of their schedule this year of 2023. Maybe it would be good outlet for Mollie King or Jamie Leung to go Cel Spellman if he made return to radio. Can see only minor tweaks across maybe late night/overnight programming changing but most of this year a quiet year for Radio 1. Radio 2 could have similar level of quietness unless the whole budget cutting and luring of presenters to other outlets could persuade things to be different. I can see events being scaled down and any costly features across stations maybe cut or streamlined.
  3. Heard her presenting on Kiss FM before felt it was a big loss for them as she was one of the finest that fit their station very well in slot with much more airtime than radio 1. @AndyK77 With the Party Anthems playlist with Charlie Tee and Hedges. One thing to dance anthems would like to see change is the dropping of what is ‘classic dance anthems’ and go back to a 3 hour full show of not being split across three one hour segments. Its better if going to ave song from five, ten or anything older coupled up and mixed with a new track and something that is fresh next because if going to get old Desciples track like to serve with a Nia Archives track as tonight has done
  4. Just seen this couldn’t imagine Annie Nightingale retiring for radio 1. If she’s been going for 50+ years at the station I could imagine it been done before now. Only time see her leaving Radio 1 before her death would be if health complications or illness prevented her from being able to host a weekly radio show. But, would be good use of her talent to do one show on Radio 2 or 6 Music.
  5. As said before Gary Davies would only do a weekday show if it was a shock snap up of one of the presenters to an immediate commercial snap up or long term leave of absence for presenter to recover for illness. Could see him doing at most few months or weeks of interim cover but in the case of Steve Wright they went for regular stand in OJ Borg than him.
  6. Yes prefer a chart of the year than a Christmassy chart post Christmas I think a quick chart of week summery bedded into a chart of the year programme like how Jack would run down the album chart in a quick and pacy manner so the top 20 with movers and shakers announced.
  7. I think if they arent confirmed to be starting shows on the station or havent by next December. Sam & Danni, Emil Franci, Robyn Richford, James Cuscack could be figures over the festive period. With mix of having some bits of At Home with Vick and Jordan having one special featuring bits from podcast. And maybe return to have a day of best of Live Lounge/Sessions. Would like in the crimbo limbo next year if not doing a Next Gen Takeover do maybe a slot of original comedy hours in the evening like when did Kench for one week.
  8. One thing is I wish they updated the art work for the takeover programming as they have done on previous years like seeing the faces of the presenters on sounds app
  9. I would maybe try about 65-70% from that year with 20% of that percent being artists that are new seen as new or up and coming artists, independent artists not signed with record label or small labels or introducing supported names have been or currently. 30% past 7 years with priority for last three year and to artists from independent labels certain priorities 5% to any thing older. Ideally rarity to anything beyond 2002. E.g seasonal bank-holidays, Christmas season, certain cultural events and moments e.g death certain pop star or act or trending in the charts. To choices made in segment of artists selections and DJ mixes for Mini-Mix, Chill Mix, Essential Mix would class as exempt. But, however sometimes e.g on Rock Show or Chillest. Ideally making it about the new artists and new music. For most of the time and rejig the play list rules to ensure that 5 weeks on the playlist is pretty much maximum. But, when comes to some of the artists and genres playing think for example certain listeners wanted to have a BTS songs that is out on the playlist. Think the station should be able to get ahead of the game and play it fresh as it drops and for certain songs that begining to gain popularity to being able to play it before it blows up. Think the future of the station’s music policy is move to look ahead the pace of TikTok’s music trends or that with other popular online platforms. Think whether some of the TikTok Takeover idea might not have played. It’s not the content makers the station needs to reach out but the curation and taste-making side of social media/ streaming music end of the business. The actual entertainment side of content creators wouldn’t exactly translate. I could see how teaming up with TikToker’s to produce promotional big weekend stuff. But when comes to the playlist looking at the genres and trends thats looking at that data should help more. Only way any of TikTokers would work is through podcast content like if those educational informative Tik-Tokers for bits on Newsbeat/Lifehacks channeling podcast and on air contribution would work. There. Back to playlist I rather hear something I’m not that familiar with and have to search it out or such a rare play and nothing that I’m far too familiar with as. With how repetitive playlists can be thats why tend to prefer to listen to my own choice of music or catch up with stuff on sounds
  10. That’s good point. As you say Radio 2 its the case got to be particular as eventhough have some evening shows where some of the older dance tracks that may bit harsher (normally 6 Music for the deeper cuts and classics) But, daytime on Radio 2 playlist is more light, fluffy and safe. I think with Dance Anthems, Anthems or any show that features throwbacks prefer. When a throwback song is wedged and sandwiched with a current playlist or future hit. With classic anthems for 2 hours on saturday. Hearing a blend of a playlist and that spontaneity and surprise is lacking. Think most listeners would like it to feel bit blended than pilled and clubbed together. Think in a good way throwbacks and older music need to feel like the soar thumb in the playlist
  11. Think my main issue of bringing up the throwback music. Like have on the holiday anthems mix its wall to wall every daytime hour of radio with music today thats like 15+ years old prefer it when. If playing an older track that there would be atleast at few new tracks thrown into the mix Bluestraw
  12. Think I personally have a quirky eclectic taste in music. I think where Radio 1 differs from Capital as often feels like wall paper and background passive role to play where Radio 1 has been more pro-active in youth culture. Think we know that Radio 1 wont have the figures of listeners it once had. I think the value of the station is when there is that curation that feels unlike what you get on a streaming platform the power of for introducing artists and new artists and songs being played across different times of the schedule holds so much value. Think with streaming services and other rival stations it’s so easy to give the hits and throwbacks of the past. But Radio’s future and the station will be in quality not quantity. Think the station needs to take risks in making the station not directly catering for those at the latter of its audience. But, ensure if you like a conversations on youth culture, news and life with presented by mostly new and fresh names who would be stars of the future and latest in new artists and music and for that to be reflected throughout the schedule. Think music wise for Radio 1 to thrive in the future needs to be better at getting ahead of the game of streaming services on curation.
  13. I kind of think with a feature like something song or ten minute takeover as say that they try to keep older songs to more rarity. But think it’s better one feature in a programme than just a playlisted programme thats just 1 hour +
  14. Think unlike in the 1990’s theres so many more places that you can get music which would be like greatest hits or throwbacks. With DAB more decades stations through Absolute and Heart and even Kisstory. Radio 2 has the 90’s shows where they play a lot of dance and alternative music and 6 Music has Rave Forever. Think with music trends still around there needs to be the thought can people just listen to this in some other places. As with Pete Tong & Annie Nightingale they keep on diversify. They constantly championing new talent
  15. I think atleast with Dance Anthems or Anthems and sunday morning.if you are going to be playing throwbacks dont make it wall to wall two-three hour blocks. I always preferred way Danny Howard did Dance Anthems think at least within an hour of daytime on weekends should her few new tracks as to all throwbacks
  16. I just thinking sometimes in daytime as to before Dance Anthems became more weighted into more classic selections and very heavy playlisted tracks and with show like Radio 1 00’s theres more in the scheduled to give you a song that you would’ve heard on the tops of the streaming service playlist or just heard before and little of what a new track you might not have heard before. I think the whole increase in anthems playlists has made things bit predictable and safe and less in between a playlisted songs would you have much shoe horning of a different new track and artist.
  17. I wasn’t trying to make to much of a generational comparison.
  18. I find most of the current list of the say last 3 years and top chart hits do get dominated by key figures whether George Ezra, Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, Joel Corry etc. Radio 1 prides itself on playing new music but has leant to playing more often stuff from 90’s and 00’s than recent songs or future and current songs. When the Essential Albums is on in evenings will have that show, Anthems, Classic Dance Anthems, Radio 00’s and overnight playlists occupying the station. Do think maybe theres more room for new music and verity of future sounds. Where Radio should be the place of more older hits and song
  19. Unless theres an announcement to be named of a future programme change for 10pm-11pm Mon-Wed in new year. I had feeing it couldn’t last but feel that Future Alternative Playlist could work in the slot on one of the days can imagine Essential Albums would be there for short time. Would like to see more done with the ‘Future’ name like ‘Future Fusion’ with mix of world music, electro-jazz, asian/Afrobeats, Future Funny with fresh stuff from comedians like stand-up and original comedy programming. Could even have Future Bars of future rap
  20. I wished they rethought the whole TOTP thing for NYE had like a whole night of music acts live. Right about Christmas Day TOTP. Way to kill any left remnants of the shows identity.
  21. I dont think the BBC can or should operate such a station think with content across BBC Radio 1 and 2 theres programming for that age demographic whether Radio 1 00’s, Anthems, Dance Anthems on Radio 1 to Rylan, Scott Mills, DJ Spoonie, Sara Cox with the 90s shows providing stuff for the age demographics you describe so does Indie, Rave and Emo Forever playlists on 6 so does Rampage, DJ Ace, and other stuff on 1 Xtra. As for older listeners you have Boom Greatest Hits, Radio 2, BBC Local stations. With proposed cuts to the BBC’s news and local radio. Don’t think if they end up reversing any cuts to services after backlash will have the resources to create new music entertainment radio services to cater for every age demographic. Think it’s about providing services that have a verity for a broad and a Radio 1 and Radio 2 provide the most diverse audiences hence its mainstream popularity. If stations exist out there in the commercial sector. The BBC doesn’t need to compete
  22. Know she’s done one 5Live and Radio 2 cover last year for one show one off. But @NathanS if the station didnt have James Cusack, Emil Franci, Sam & Danni and Robyn Richford and Nat O’Leary think Adele would be popping up more often on Radio 1. But the cover contacts book is bursting why don’t get anyone doing something like 7 days a week with cover and regular commitments.
  23. I think that it would be the case that Radio 5 Live could easily take a FM frequency of their music station likely Radio 1 or Radio 2 would like it if it was on DAB they kept a relatively normal output with keeping few more news bulletins in later hours just saying for local updates tune in to your local station and the odd bit of Public service information
  24. Think shes very much a positive and enthusiastic person think she’d make great cover over the coming years up to a permanent slot if arises.
  25. Most likely, I used to like it when Annie Mac, Fearne Cotton, Huw Stephens, Jack Saunders had request features. Do enjoy it in when they do it in shows with avid music listeners where can hear great throwback or something you’d think oh got to get that on my playlist. Think with songs like Everywhere maybe with death of their singer influenced the dip into the Radio 2 music folder. But artists like Fleetwood Mac are quite listened to by gen z as TikTok trends show and course featured on this years pudsey in need song with Anne Marie & Niall Horan
