I'd say writing anything vaguely positive about Maya veers beyond 'unpopular' into the 'absurd' ???
-
After a shaky start I think they've created a decent show. Not comparing it to Scott & Chris as that was just unique and vcery special, but D&V's show works and is an entertaining listen.
-
I know, was just teasing! Mine is that it's time to move Clara on. She isn't a match for her predecessors on that show.
-
Bit of deja-vu here!!
-
Has he ever covered the chart before? I'm assuming he must have done since he's covered so many shows before, I just don't remember it!
-
Doubt Greg will beat Moyles' record but won't be going to R2 now! My money's on Trevor Nelson getting mornings, with Adele Roberts taking late nights. Can see a female replacement for Vine eventually, based outside London.

Why do you think Jordan would want limbo-week breakfast? It's like a run of weekend breakfasts, completely different from the live Xmas Day show that he always wanted to do. Pretty certain he wouldn't want it, and anyway it won't happen!! It was a relief to hear a non-anthems show tbh! Agree though should be chart of the year with just the top 40 countdown and number 1 perhaps
-
Agree mostly @Jono though I think it's easier to see which ones are NOT good enough. Then there's quite a few who are decent but impossible to really assess how good
-
I've found today's bunch overall more professional-sounding! And yes that includes decent news junctions! Conor especially seemed very comfortable to me
-
There are just some bits of amateurish broadcasting that overshadow other qualities. But really are the anthems shows anything other than bland at best?! Not the presenters' fault but they're not exactly a great listen IMO Evanna figured it out! Arguably the buck should stop with the producers here, despite the anthems shows being simple to produce they have done a bad job at coaching their presenters technically (not just news intros!)
-
I know I go on about it but the Newsbeat thing just makes the station sound amateurish. Even when they hit the the timings they don't even talk more than 2 seconds into the ramp and often mess up the fade-up of the newsbeat studio. Surprised Aled hasn't addressed this! me neither, he's okay but sounds very young!
-
Yep I get why anthems are easy to produce, but agree it's been done to death now. Also don't understand how a producer can't train a presenter how to do a news junction properly - so far today's been quite messy...
-
I guess the 10 min takeover is as close as you get, as that just has to be in the playout system. Still not the same though, I agree!
-
Surely it's effectively cancelled though? TOTP is all about new live performances, the show will be a 'music year in review' but just using TOTP branding doesn't really make it a TOTP show!
-
Link to the actual schedule. Close but not full-on anthems and it's James Cusack for Charlie. https://www.bbc.co.uk/schedules/p00fzl86/2022/12/24

I still think it's highly unlikely this will happen anytime soon. The content may have grown a little with the Treadmills challenge but still it's nothing like the Radio 1 show in terms of features that can be easily 'transported' to a podcast.
-
Really don't think there's enough content to make a R2 podcast. It's a decent show, but will have a way to go to build content that could make a podcast viable.
-
Completely disagree here. His Radio 1 afternoon / breakfast period was exceptional, and while he remains a fine broadcaster, the shows are nowhere near the same quality. As you say, he's toned things down a fair bit, which is inevitable but less engaging as a result.
-
Oops how could I miss Dave off the list from Moyles at R1! I get your point about the credits but really the labels are just how they are positioned. No doubt Dave at R1, and Dom at RX, contribute significantly more than the additional presenters will at Capital. Same with Scott and Chris at R1, it was always Scott's name above the door (as they used to say!), though Chris was never co-presenting in terms of announcing songs. I am not a Capital listener so how does it work so far - do the 3 of them contribute to all parts, including announcing songs like RMC on R1? Or is it really the main presenter plus two adding bits here and there?
-
True but he also talks an awful lot so there is time for those 3 to contribute fully! Same as the old R1 Moyles show with Dom, Tina and Aled. Then again I'm sure Global have a plan for how it will work...
-
Bruno Brookes was by far the all-time best in my lifetime, Scott was fantastic though and probably Jack is already in 3rd spot for me. The 'Wes / JK&Joel / Fearne & Reggie' era was dire IMO, Greg finally brought something classy back to the show.
-
Agree about Scott getting R2 drive or breakfast, feels inevitable! Could end up with a stint on both... I'd be surprised to see OJ promoted, he's a 'safe pair of hands' for overnights, maybe earlies and for cover but nothing more IMO. I'd expect to see Vine's eventual replacement being the 'outside London' show. Vernon would fit well but depends if he wants the commitment given his other media work.

Radio 1's Major Daytime Schedule Changes: One Year On
Bluestraw replied to UnofficialStark's topic in BBC Radio 1
Agree completely about Clara - she just isn't the 'musical authority' to hold that show for me, but I don't see anything changing soon there as I have a hunch Jack (the only other current potential successor) will bypass that show and end up on Daytime somewhere. I'm very much hoping that 'Dean and Vicky' is a significantly better show than Dean has managed. To be fair, he has gotten better, he seemed quite out of his depth in the beginning but I haven't warmed to him particularly. He was quite good covering for Scott & Chris once (with Katie?), so depending on the new duo dynamic it could be ok. -

Also glad his creative expertise is being recognised by him becoming an EP. And clear now why their R5 show is ending! -

Really pleased for Chris - was always going to be a tough sell for him to be able to fit the R2 style with Scott, so it's great he's found something else really good!
