  1. Hello everyone! I need your help. For our final exams we have to choose four books from an endless list. We then have to read all four and at the exam we should be able to answer questions about it. Now, I've got the list, but I don't know many of the books on it. However, I want to choose interesting books. Please have a quick look through the list and if you have read any of it, please tell me if it is any good and why or which book I should never ever choose... I would be so grateful and it's much appreciated!! Thanks a lot! Here's my list: - The Music of Chance (Paul Auster) - To the Wedding (John Berger) - The Tortilla Curtain (T.C. Boyle) - Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury) - Breakfast at Tiffany's (Truman Capote) - The Magic Toyshop (Angela Carter) - The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Michael Chbosky) - Girl with a Pearl Earring (Tracy Chevalier) - The Lady and the Unicorn (Dt.) - Disgrace (J.M. Coetzee) - The Hours (Michael Cunningham) - The Millstone (Margaret Drabble) - The Gathering (Anne Enright) - The Great Gatsby (F. Scott. Fitzgerald) - Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café (Fannie Flagg) - The Collector (John Fowles) - Dr Fischer of Geneva or The Bomb Party (Graham Greene) - The Quiet American (Graham Greene) - The Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway) - The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini) - A Thousand Splendid Suns (Khaled Hosseini) - Brave New World (Aldous Huxley) - Never Let Me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro) - The Ninth Life of Louis Drax (Liz Jensen) - Heat and Dust (Ruth Prawer Jhabvala) - Mister Pip (Lloyd Jones) - Dubliners (James Joyce) - The Black Album (Hanif Kureishi) - To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee) - The Fifth Child (Doris Lessing) - Ben, in the World (Dt.) - Lamb (Bernard MacLaverty) - Life of Pi (Yann Martel) - The Child in Time (Ian McEwan) - Atonement (Ian McEwan) - On Chesil Beach (Ian McEwan) - The Ballad of the Sad Café (Carson McCullers) - Death of a Salesman (Arthur Miller) - The Magician's Wife (Brian Moore) - The Colour of Blood (Dt.) - Lies of Silence (Dt.) - The Bluest Eye (Toni Morrison) - Sula (Toni Morrison) - Cry, the Beloved Country (Alan Paton) - Rabbit-Proof Fence (Doris Pilkington) - The Winslow Boy (Terence Rattigan) - The God of Small Things (Arundhati Roy) - Educating Rita (Willy Russell) - The Catcher in the Rye (Jerome D. 2. Exactly. I think I'll be leaving fb soon, there are many other ways to communicate with people. Still have to sort everything out though...
  3. Just came back from Ireland (actually coming back sucks...). The Irish are soooo friendly and everyone seems happy. Made lots of friends over there, got to visit the Dublin Fire Brigade and was saved from the rain by hitch-hiking a bus. Spent a wonderful week in lovely Ireland and will probably return eventually.
  4. I got an invitation off a friend some days ago. It's still unused in my inbox. I won't joing Google+ because I don't need/want it. It's just another social network and I've already enough to keep up to date with on Twitter and FB. Google wants to join the social media market and I never liked companies trying to influence people by getting friends to do the "marketing".
  5. It looks okay, nothing special though. I'm not sure if I like the new layout with all the pictures on the page, it's a bit confusing. I mean, people might know who the faces on the pics are, but if they don't, no one really has the time to go over the pictures with the cursor. However, I like the appearance of the Chart Show page. It looks more appealing with the pictures of the CD covers.
  6. Thanks Viv, but isn't that a bit exaggerated...?
  7. You're all very welcome. Now, the episodes from last week are online as well.
  8. Shame that I won't be able to listen! It's in my fall holidays, so it would be great to get up and listen to Scott, but I'm away on that day.
  9. .....and also celebrating delicious traditional breakfast, British humour, being winners at sports (just depending on what KIND of sports you look at), friendly people, .... . There's lots to celebrate!
  10. Christmas??? Seriously, WTF?? You can't start a countdown thread in SEPTEMBER!! I can understand if you want to do a countdown at the start of December - I could even accept November, but September?? What's wrong?
  11. Wasn't there another song called Radioactive? From another band/singer? The name somehow sounds familiar...
  12. Viv must have gone insane. There's no other reason for that. You can't stand this cr*p for more than a few seconds.
  13. This song is awful! Don't know if it gets better after a minute or so, but couldn't stand more than about 10 secs.
  14. Last year I saw the advertising for the series, but when it started I was already back at home. Would love to watch it once though...
  15. This James Morrison song is wonderful. I heard it while on holidays on local radio there and thought it's amazing.
  16. I watched the first one online, but I didn't think it was outstanding. Had some good bits in it, e.g. Scott & the Hoff singing, but that's about it. Sleep was more important to me than watching all the others as well. I just hope it's available somewhere because now I'd somehow like to see them.
  17. Listening to the podcast right now... I love Only Fools and Horses! Just got to know it during this summer. It's so funny!
  18. It's always the same. Did you know that when the US Airways Flight 1549 was ditched in the Hudson River, the first pictures appeared online before the emergency services even were at the scene? Medias work often faster than police/etc. Don't ask me how they get to know where all this stuff is happening though...
  19. These rules definitely don't apply around here. If someone behaves like this, they probably get quite far around my age, where everyone who drinks/swears/behaves like a tw*t seems to be liked and admired. However, when getting older, this doesn't work anymore. People aged 20 and above prefer "normal" people who are just being themselves and nice. They want to have honest people around them, not ones who behave like sh*t...
  20. You can listen here: http://www.105.ch/channels/105-fm/ I don't actually know when it starts, the email I got doesn't say that... I guess you should just try listening and hoping he's on. And remember: Friday 22.00-22.00 SWISS TIME
  21. I managed to get it to last for almost a week, because I didn't have any charging possibilities. I turned off the internet network though... Is there any way to turn off the internet on the HTC Desire? My brother got that one and he's now waaaaays over his monthly data limit.
  22. Already replied per message... I started downloading podcasts on 22 February.
  23. When were the Brits 2010? Date?
