Tidy Friday exposed a suspicious pair of trainers
The show began with office admin. Regular clear outs had finally reached the pile of items under Scott’s desk, including an expensive pair of trainers which appeared to be the wrong size for him.
Chris briefly suspected that Scott had been exaggerating his shoe size, only to discover that the trainers were a Christmas present for somebody else. Scott refused to identify the recipient because they might be listening.
A complaint arrived almost immediately
One listener had persuaded a workplace to move from Radio 2 to Radio 1 and thought the experiment was going well until the show played The Fox by Ylvis. That single record, they complained, had almost destroyed the argument for keeping the younger station on.
The Who Game also generated complaints from people who believed Scott had used throwback suggestions connected to their relatives without sufficient credit. The feature had become popular enough that even who owned a particular nostalgic reference could now start an argument.
Emma volunteered for the most exposing family conversation yet
Where Do You Think They Were introduced Emma and her mum Gaynor. Gaynor took the story back to a camping holiday in a field where the weather had been relentlessly wet.
After four days of rain and hardly leaving the tent, the couple reached their final night and decided to make the most of being alone. What they did not realise was that another couple had pitched their tent only about seven feet away.
The silhouettes were not as private as they thought
Gaynor described how movement inside the lit tent would have created silhouettes for anybody outside. The story also involved a missing earring, giving Scott endless opportunities to suggest innocent explanations for somebody being on all fours inside a tent.
When Gaynor finally crawled out, she discovered the neighbouring couple sitting with mugs of tea. They had apparently been close enough to hear everything and may have had a far better view of the shadows than Emma’s parents realised.
Emma accepted that she was a “tent baby” and admitted the story had been more intense than expected. The show then made matters worse by putting her brother Charlie on the line after he had been forced to hear the whole thing too.
