15 September 2008: Russell Brand went before the public in “Would He Get It?”

What’s Occurring? returned for another run

Scott treated the feature as though it were beginning a grand new season after the weekend, giving the familiar game a deliberately overblown sense of occasion.

Greg James sounded as tired as he felt

Clips from Greg James’s early show were replayed after he had been working with very little sleep. The small slips and strange moments were exactly the sort of thing the afternoon programme enjoyed preserving, partly because everyone at Radio 1 knew their own broadcasts could be harvested in the same way.

Russell Brand faced the public vote

The show took Russell Brand’s appeal to the streets with Would He Get It?, asking members of the public for an immediate verdict. The feature reduced celebrity image to a blunt yes-or-no question and let the public provide the punchlines, giving Scott another excuse to compare the studio’s assumptions with what people outside actually thought.
