Scott discovered his inner vocal coach
Scott had been reminded of the kind of music teachers who try to extract emotion by interrupting a song with questions about what the lyrics actually mean. An old clip from Celebrity Fame Academy demonstrated the technique perfectly, with vocal coach Carrie Grant repeatedly questioning Fearne Cotton while she tried to sing Travis’s “Driftwood”.
Scott immediately decided he could do the same thing.
Chris became the first test subject. Instead of simply letting him sing, Scott interrupted with increasingly intense prompts about the meaning of each line, telling him to think harder about what he was saying and insisting the result sounded more emotional.
The success, at least in Scott’s opinion, was enough for him to declare himself a new music teacher.
Scott and Chris wanted control of a couple’s first dance
Chris had been DJing at a colleague’s wedding and admitted how much power a wedding DJ really had once the first dance was over and the couple had surrendered control of the music.
That inspired a more dangerous idea. Scott and Chris asked for a couple willing to let the show choose their actual first-dance song without revealing it in advance.
In return, they would try to secure a recorded message from one of the couple’s favourite celebrities or pop stars. The more difficult the celebrity request, the more outrageous Scott suggested the secret song might become.
German honesty left an impression
Scott had spent the weekend working in Germany and again noticed how much more direct people could be compared with the careful politeness he was used to at home. He recalled previous trips where strangers had delivered brutally honest observations without any obvious intention to offend.
