Scott and Chris needed a “one for”

Greg James had become “the one for getting up”.

Nick Grimshaw was “the one for going home”.

Scott and Chris did not have an equivalent slogan.

After appearing on Grimmy’s show, they decided to fix that.

Radio 1 imaging voices had recorded several possibilities.

The one for daytime drinking was one of Scott’s favourites.

Other suggestions tried to represent freelancers, people between jobs and the general daytime audience.

The pair enjoyed the fact that these jingles had apparently been made before anybody senior had fully considered whether they were a good idea.

The phone system pushed Scott over the edge

Bangers then ran into technical problems.

The Radio 1 phone system stopped behaving.

Scott was told it needed to reboot and that the process would take around 15 minutes.

He could not understand why a modern national radio station needed that long to restart its phones.

The irritation became a genuine on-air rant.

Scott later admitted he rarely lost his temper but this came close.

Because listeners could not call normally, the show had to improvise around the failure.

Once the system recovered, Scott had cooled down enough to recognise that his reaction had become part of the entertainment.

Courtney found out about the tulip bedding

Where Do You Think They Were? returned with Courtney.

Her mum Beccy and dad Nick explained that the story began on a cold February night.

Nick had been allowed to stay over.

They went into the bedroom belonging to Beccy’s father, supposedly to watch television.

Scott immediately described it as the original Netflix and chill.

The television barely mattered.

The room contained a double bed, a cupboard with the TV on it and tulip-patterned wallpaper and bedding.

Courtney’s grandad was in the room next door.

Nick remembered repeatedly trying to keep everything quiet.

Beccy later discovered she was pregnant and told Nick at the top of the stairs.

Courtney had therefore spent her birthday learning that she was conceived in her grandad’s bedroom on tulip bedding while everybody attempted not to make enough noise for him to notice.

The birthday montage had a lot of work to do afterwards.

Reverse cowboy entered toilet science

The programme also discovered that some people sat on the toilet facing the cistern rather than away from it.

Scott and Chris called the position reverse cowboy.

The supposed benefits included having somewhere in front to rest your arms or place a phone.

Neither presenter was initially convinced.

The Friday Extra Show would recruit listeners to try it properly.
