26 October 2018: The Friday Extra Show discovered a mouse in the Live Lounge

Friday Extra Show: toilet research continued

Extra podcast edition

The extra podcast opened with unfinished business from Thursday.

Scott and Chris had asked whether sitting backwards on the toilet, facing the cistern, might actually be better.

Several listeners had agreed to test reverse cowboy at home.

Chris called them back.

The reports were mixed.

Some liked having the cistern in front of them.

Others thought the position was impractical, uncomfortable or simply too strange to become normal.

The experiment had still succeeded in getting Radio 1 listeners to reconsider something they had been doing the same way for their entire lives.

Courtney’s conception story was replayed

Chris revisited the latest Where Do You Think They Were?

Courtney’s parents had supposedly gone into her grandad’s bedroom to watch television.

They never really got as far as the TV.

The tulip bedding, the grandad next door and Nick repeatedly trying to keep everything quiet had made the edition one of the week’s strongest moments.

The Friday show once again gave the story a second life without forcing Courtney to sit through the whole reconstruction again live.

Radio 1’s technical complaints produced mouse news

The show then answered more nerdy listener questions about how Radio 1 worked.

A conversation with somebody responsible for technical operations unexpectedly revealed something much more interesting.

There was a mouse in the Live Lounge.

Not metaphorically.

A real mouse had been seen inside the area used for major artist performances.

Chris immediately understood the problem.

Live Lounge Month was approaching.

The room would be full of artists, cameras and musicians.

Nobody knew how a pop star might react if a mouse suddenly ran across the floor during an acoustic performance.

The discovery created a new ongoing storyline for the show.

The mouse was now a Radio 1 colleague

The Friday Extra Show had begun as a place for behind-the-scenes trivia.

It had accidentally found the next week’s main character.

From now on, every Live Lounge booking came with a second question.

Would the artist perform?

And would the mouse appear?
