Overall Radio 1 daytime is still largely focussed on what it's target audience is buying and listening to. There was a period when Radio 1 went very new music and it probably didn't work. Even the younger audiences listening to Radio 1 are mostly those who like mainstream music. The sad thing is that Radio 1 no longer has a John Peel type show and Introducing has been really cut down. The best it gets is Jack Saunders' Future Sounds which is great but does it go far enough? That said - I do find it surreal that Radio 1 regularly plays tracks from the late 90s on 10-minute takeover, Something Songs, Anthems, Dance Anthems. Back in 1995 there is absolutely no way Radio 1 would have been playing tracks from 1967/68 ever. However, a lot of this is down to the fact that the music trends of the 90s are still around to some extent - especially dance music which hasn't evolved that radically. Which I guess is why people like Pete Tong have maintained their relevance.

Was Adele's Radio 2 stint planned? I wondered why Sam and Danni were in for her, Really feels like she is in that transition phase to Radio 2 but hard to see what permanent slot she could get right now.

I think age is becoming a more complex thing. My parents - now 78/79 - were of a generation where most people acted more like their parents than people 10 or 20 years younger. These days the difference between 60 year olds and 20 year olds musically is smaller than it has ever been. Today I heard Charlie Hedges playing Two Can Play At That Game by Bobby Brown - released in 1995 and still a great track. But hang on in 1995 there is almost no way Radio 1 would have played a track from 1968. I have often argued that the technological changes in music in the 90s, combined with the influence of Dance culture have changed a lot. This adds to the growing issue for Radio 2. How does it appeal to an audience that doesn't feel old whilst still appealing to the people who do feel old!

Greg once admitted on (I think Scott's show), (and I paraphrase) the 10-minute takeover was a little bit controlled in that it had to roughly fit what they wanted. So in otherwords nothing would get played unless it would be on Anthems (except the odd rogue one played for a reason like Fleetwood Mac the other week).

Even though I am firmly in Radio 2's demographic, I still prefer the music on Radio 1 (though the music on Scott's show is much more acceptable for me than say what Steve Wright played). Also, it can feel a bit "middle class mummy", I probably find most of the chat on Radio 1 closer to my interests and humour. To be fair - I probably sit outside most "audience modelling". Probably explains why I am single too ?

It looks the Christmas TOTP is very scaled back - though not cancelled as some places reported - https://www.radiotimes.com/tv...s-christmas-2022-newsupdate/

Jeremiah's show feels much more mainstream than his old show and much less Soundsystem. That said I love it and love him. As I have often said - a real candidate for a mainstream Radio 1 slot. Fits into the modern Radio 1 perfectly; warm, funny and relatable to the core audience.

I wonder why the last minute holiday for Dean and Vicky.
-
I wonder who is covering for Jack on the chart on 28 October and 4 November?
-
It's a fair point. I don't see Zoe Ball wanting to do Breakfast for a very long time. She could even end up staying and taking Ken's slot. I often think Ken Bruce and Terry Wogan were very very similar in broadcast style and even personality. You could imagine that Ken has a plan to retire on his terms - going out on a high as a rarely criticised broadcaster and the most popular music radio show in the country. It is sad for Steve Wright that his departure isn't really of his choosing. He probably should have removed himself a few years back.

I am not sure if people have looked at some of the general comments on Radio 1's social channels. It is clear that Radio 1 has a bit of a problem with an ageing audience again. A lot of people well outside Radio 1's demographics saying they don't like anybody now Scott has finished - apart from possibly Greg or Jordan. There is also a common theme of posts "I'd long grown out of love with the music but tuned in for Scott and Chris". So for the sake of station evolution maybe Dean and Vicky are meant to really not meant to be to everybody's taste. The big issue is what is the future of youth music radio stations?

97 to 99 FM BBC Radio 1...
-
Very possible. Being on this site means you liked what Scott and Chris were doing but maybe some of the research was pointing in a different direction. The station generally plays much more music than a few years ago.
-
Scott and Chris actually played lots of music but their features were incredibly slick so made the show feel like they had even more content than they had.
-
It's a long time since I heard this sort of topical humour on Radio 1 - which is a bit sad really.
-
Surely Dean and Vicky have a big say over the content of their own show?

Radio 1's Major Daytime Schedule Changes: One Year On

And perhaps that's the issue for some of us. Gaydio has a particular style and he was maybe perfect for that but needed to amend his "act" a bit for Radio 1. Same way as say Jordan North in his current style would probably never work on a commercial station. (He has said the same about his time at Capital). (To be fair I'm an openly gay guy who doesn't get drag, musicals or Britney ? ) -

RMC - I like them but feel show is a bit subdued compared to what it could be. Vick and Jordan - on the whole really enjoy, though at times feels a little overproduced. They are at their best when they go "off script". Clara - I thought she sounded great at first, but show seems to lack some energy and it also feels like Clara isn't involved much in cross-station activity in the way that say Jack is. Powerdown playlist - bit of a switch off for me. Dean - never really got into his show. You can't like everything. Danny - I actually really like him in that slot. Sarah - Great show. -
His opening link is amazing in view of everything that has come out about Tim Westwood or am I reading too much into it?
-
He is covering 1000 - 1300 Tuesday to Friday this week on Absolute Radio 90s and was on Absolute overnights two weeks ago. I quite like his style.
-
Early Breakfast was replaced by Radio 1 Dance on Monday morning. Covering for Rickie, Melvin and Vicky on mid-mornings today Arielle mentioned she hadn't been well and just about made Future Sounds last night.
-
It's very possible, like many pregnant women, she just needs to take it easy earlier than planned. Matt and Mollie were already due to be off air this weekend.
-
That's a fair call @Jono. Mark Goodier still doing the adverts for the NOW albums shows just how influential he was on the chart and arguably one of the best of all time. You actually miss he did the chart for an earlier stint too. 1 year 153 days on Wiki. But I agree Scott has been really good on the chart thanks to injecting some of his fun into it. I wasn't a fan of some of the presenters like Jameela Jamil but I think Jack Saunders has the potential to be one of the best.

Emily Pilbeam and Christian Carlisle are in for Gemma Bradley on BBC Introducing on 4 September.

They aren't getting much time off before starting their new show.
