  1. Old Codger Fan

    Fix Radio

    In a word, unremarkable.
  2. Sudden departure of Graham Norton at weekends has led to my sudden departure from listening at weekends. They're not even trying to replace it as a 'Main Attraction' slot, at this point. Thank goodness for the imminent arrival of Romesh Ranganathan at R2!
  3. Classic case of the whole being less than the sum of it's parts. See also Simon Mayo + Jo Whiley.
  4. Scott Solo on R2 sounds all wrong to me - so it could hardly be worse. Each to his own, I know.
  5. This is what should have happened, in the first place. Better late than pregnant, I suppose.
  6. Much enjoyed Scott on R1 - But sounds all wrong on R2, especially in light of who he replaced.
  7. Whisper it, but .. Scott still isn't an adequate replacement
  8. Shocker. 69 is nothing, these days.
  9. Forgive me if this has been answered already, elsewhere. Just something I'm curious about. When they 'extend' the actual record into an 'instrumental section' (to talk over, afterwards), how is this done? 1/ With their own 'vocal-removing' technology? 2/ By getting cover bands to make something that will sound very similar? 3/ By receiving extra tracks from the record companies, for that purpose? 4/ By clipping instrumental parts from the record - or a 'B-Side'/ '12"' type alternate version of it?? Whatever the answer, I think there's an over-reliance on it - but that's a different topic!!
  10. The Blue Room was great - I would get up early for it!
  11. Correct! - There's got to be a market for that, right?? - Or - just me??
  12. I've always wanted to do a show called 'From the Forties To The Noughties' ,,,
  13. I've observed in various ways on here already how much more entertaining the stand-in-for-Jack shows are, compared to the actual-Jack shows ... And get shouted-down for it, every time.
  14. If we include R1Xtra, does this make David Rodigan the new Old Trooper?
  15. My mind has been changed. He's alright on his own. Weird but true.
  16. Browsing it now - Gets off to a good start with the 'Whole Lotta Love' theme tune! And Clara doing her (perfectly pleasant) TV voice again (Unlike ... The RADIO one ?? - With the SENSELESS dynamics and rising inflections all over the place ???!!! ) .......
  17. I'm open to having my mind changed, but I reckon it'll be intensely annoying ...
  18. Whisper it, folks, but ... Every time someone stands-in for Jack Saunders, the show has improved. Credit where it's due - Every time JS has stood-in for Clara Amfo, that's also improved matters - but that's quite a low bar!
  19. The popularity of R1 Anthems/ Radio 1 00's among U-35's is mildly depressing, like they've already taken to saying, "Things were better in my day" ......
  20. Whereas driving force should have been ensuring that there wasn't too marked a drop in quality!
  21. Yep, I found his casual, 'oh by the way' approach quite refreshing ...
  22. She's semi-scripted yes - That's not quite the same thing as 'inauthentic', though.
  23. Yes, that has been touched on before, in other threads - Either go full 'muso' with interesting facts about the making of the records themselves etc ... Or incorporate it into a 'light entertainment' format (shout-outs from someone dancing in their kitchen etc) - The 'hybrid' approach doesn't really work ...
