DC got a reaction from AmyG in Scotts shows on Mixcloud
I've uploaded the last few weeks of Scotts Radio 1 show to my mixcloud which I have various bits of old Radio 1 on from the 2000's, including Scotts final show. As they won't be on BBC Sounds forever. Also as I recorded lots of shows from 2005 to 2007, the Chappers and Laura era. I'm also working my way through those and getting them online when I find the time. A long way to go but I've gotten to around summer 2006, hopefully I can pick up on those soon.
Everything is in this playlist, keep tabs on it for more old shows in the future.

Good luck both! Thanks for all the memories Scott, Chappers will finally come back from the toilet and you'll all be gone!

Amazing run, to say he joined back in 1998 and has been a consitant daytime fixture since then. Congratulations to him. For a long time he's been pretty much the only daytime Radio 1 DJ I still listen to, as I've outgrown the station quite a long time ago. But that alone is down to simply how good he is. Those years from 2004 to around 2007, with Chappers and Laura where I hardly never missed a show are unforgettable.

He'll excell on Radio 2, now it's turning into the Radio 1 I used to listen to 20 years back.

I did get up stupidly early on the morning of her final early breakfast show to record it. Which is above. I'm sure the late Vicky Marsden used to cover that same time slot or near enough, a few years before. And Clive Warren before her.

Remember him well. I've been slowly uploading all of my old Scott Mills shows to mixcloud recently. I'm currently at February 2006, I'm sure I'll hear him when I get to June 2006 for the world cup.

I get the feeling Radio 2 will be increasing their daytime music rota to include more 90's and 00's. Jo Whiley, Sara Cox, Zoe Ball and possibly Scott now then. The type of DJ's who appeal to more my age than the 70's and 80's youth. Imagine it, Radio 2 playing 00's classics from the Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, The Freemasons, Five... Turning that way.

It started with Mark & Lard's afternoon show on Radio 1, who were on that slot from 1998 - 2004. For me they were genius but you have to have to that sense of humor to get them. Basically they used to do a multitude of 'spoof' quizzes, where Lard (Marc Riley) would go into the other studio and pretend to be some wayward maniac caller into the show to play the quiz.
The 'whooooo' came from one called 'It's a Mystery'. Where there would be weird clues to guess who the celeb was, Lard on the other end of the phone would never get the answer. And when revealed (someone usually well known) there would be a few seconds silence followed by a loud 'WHHOOOOOOOOOO!!!' You can hear a clip here.

I recorded a load of Scott mills for this site from 2005-2007. I plan to try and get them up onto my mixcloud but it's gonna take a hell of a long time. I have already got some local radio such as BRMB up on there, and my Mark & Lard collection too. I have so much Scott Mills to get on there though it's outrageous.

Keep your eyes on it all though

I'd ideally rather Grimmy stop on Breakfast and Scott and Greg where they are, as I'm more likely to listen in the afternoon.
Still would love something special for Radio 1's 50th, archive recordings, chats with past DJ's etc. They did it well I thought in 2007 with the 40th. I imagine some DJ's would be easier to get involved than others, Sara Cox, Mark Radcliffe, Steve Wright, Simon Mayo would probably be up for something. Not so much DLT, Marc Riley or Chris Moyles I'd imagine.

I think he's right. Not only that, most tracks sound similar to everything else now which makes it difficult for Radio 1.
Back in say 2005 Radio 1 could say play 3 songs in a row, Foo Fighters, Pendulum & Girls Aloud. Each song completely different to the other. You couldn't imagine that now, rock music doesn't seem to be doing very well. Dance is in a better state than the 2010 EDM Swedish House Mafia phase, but still is way off it's millenium peak. And pop is just dominated by Ed Sheeran.
Look at how the likes of Maroon 5 & Linkin Park have changed to try and fit in with the current sound. Even Paramore's new track sounds nothing like a Paramore song.

People need to get a life. I wasn't the biggest fan of Jeremy Clarkson's constant slagging off the Midlands and working class people for years, but I didn't write in like some angry "Points of View" letter. I did laugh when he lost his job though I have to admit.
This won't go any further than this, ofcom have more pressing issues like finding something else for Phillip Schofield to appear in.

Interesting to see how they handled this. I plan to save Scott and Dev's shows off the iplayer before they dissapear. I only dropped into Dev's show about 4.30 and he sounded upbeat. I do plan to have a proper seek through this though.
Seems like they spent the first hour behind the scenes probably debating how to handle the situation, what the tone of the station should be. So Scott probably wasn't told to do anything differently during his time on air. Chris Price is back at Radio 1 now, he was working as a music producer at Radio 1 when September 11th happened. So has experience vastly with things like this.

What happened last Wednesday was awful without question, but not on a scale of 7/7 or 9/11. I'm old enough to remember Radio 1's output on both of these occasions.
Over 50 people (I believe, not sure of the exact amount) died on 7/7, the reports you hear on the vault on this site were recorded by myself. Scott was on breakfast and got reports in at 9.30, 9.45 and right before Jo Whiley at 10am. The rest of the day handed to Newsbeat frequently, but the Radio 1 playlist never altered that much I recall.
I remember Colin & Edith in the afternoon being upbeat/friendly but respectful at the same time. Scott had to cover for Vernon Kay, who was meant to be on from 4pm as Scott was on Breakfast in for Chris Moyles. He spoke to Vernon on the phone I'm sure. I planned to save that day from listen again as it were back then, I stupidly never did for some reason.
I do have Scott's show from 21st July 2005 when they tried the same again in London but failed, nothing much out of the ordinary on that day though only mentions of it on Newsbeat.

9/11 was a totally different animal. The world felt it like it was on the verge of the biggest war since WW2 all that week, and the shock of the attacks were broadcast live around the world. Nothing much but the Newsbeat reports and small bits of other stuff survive from Radio 1 around then. Remember, there was no iplayer or listen again to save.
But if you listen to the 2.30pm and 3pm Newsbeat reports by Clare Bradley from Mark & Lard's show, you can clearly hear the shock in her voice as she talked of the planes hitting the towers and people jumping to certain death from 110 floors in the air.
Radio 1's daytime playlist altered quite a bit that week, usually songs from the last 5 years until that point. Although Moyles played Basement Jaxx - Romeo and Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag on the afternoon, which were normal mood Radio 1 playlist songs.
I think things got solem in the days after. Moby's Poreclain was played a lot, Zero 7's Destiny was another. I also remember The Avalanches - Since I Left You, Bob Marley & Lauryn Hill - Turn Your Lights Down Low, Spiritualized - Stop Your Crying. Travis - Side was another.
Scott Mills and (I believe) Dr Mark Hamilton hosted a special edition of the Sunday Surgery at the end of that week.

Very few, if anyone survives at Radio 1 from these events. Only Scott and Chris Price on the playlist team. So they haven't really been tested on such a scale. I don't know for sure but I imagine the Radio 1 bosses would use Scott primarily during a major obit situation. After him, who knows. I'd say Greg.

As for the Queen, there are well placed procedures in place to deal with the event like mentioned in the above article. So it will be easier to deal with for Radio 1 in some sense than a terrorist attack, because they know exactly what they have to do. Diana dying was a huge shock, but I imagine Radio 1 will sound similar to this when the Queen does pass away.

It wouldn't be the first time the Radio 1 bosses have done such a thing with their best presenter(s). Losing Scott would be a huge loss though, simply down to the fact that he's head & shoulders above anyone else there imo.
As regards with Scott moving to Radio 2 in the near future, it can happen and I think will work even if he has to adapt a little. But by the time/if he goes R2, it'll have a different sound to now. I think pre 1980 music will feature a lot less, if at all during daytime hours.
Look at it this way, Radio 2 is a changing station even more so than Radio 1. How many presenters during Scott's Radio 1 years (or slightly before) work on Radio 2 now?
Chris Evans, Simon Mayo, Sara Cox, Dave Pearce, Mark Radcliffe, Jo Whiley etc. Plus one off shows.

Not only that but I think some long standing presenters will be moving on from there over the next 5 years to make room. Radio 2 took a big controversial decision with cutting "Sounds of the 60's", wrong or right they are moving to a different age themselves. They are aiming to pull in people like me, from their late 20's who've long outgrown Radio 1 to people approaching 50 now.
I gotta admit they are winning me over as well.

Absolute replaced Planet Rock (Kerrang beforehand) on 105.2 here in the midlands, a decent mix of music but that's all really. Free Radio is dire (a shadow of BRMB and Beacon in Wolverhampton beforehand), Capital is worse. We don't have Kiss in the Midlands on FM, Kisstory on the app/freeview etc is good for nostalgics like me but gets repetative.

What strikes me is the personality and unique presenters has almost gone from radio these days, and that sadly includes Radio 1. All the presenters sound the same to me.

I still listen to Scott from time to time in the car but he's the only one with any class for me now. Maybe that's because he's the very last one from my era (Chris Moyles, Mark & Lard, Simon Mayo, Sara Cox, Dave Pearce etc). I'm 27 so too young for Radio 2. I like 6Music at times (can be a bit left field at times) but I like Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie on there. Sadly no DAB in the car where I listen to the radio most.

I've mentioned the same thing before but I doubt it will happen. Radio 1 seems to be ashamed somewhat of it's history, I have no idea why as they have had some amazing presenters through their doors over the years. A lot still work for the BBC too so it wouldn't be too hard to put something together.

Coupled with the fact that the heiarchy seem to think the world began in 2012, the 50th anniversary will be low key I reckon. It'll just be some new artists doing a few "oldskool" songs in the live lounge from about 3 years ago.

Strange to me. Because so many Radio 1 listeners have a much broader horizon than what the station gives out. Look at some of the requests for the 10 minute takeover, so many tracks from the 00s and some even from the 90s too. Not saying that should be their playlist as it's a station for new music, but it should make them realize that people don't just like Ed Sheeran and Frank Ocean (whoooooo!) songs.
