  1. If you're talking the dance shows. Around 1996 to 2004 were peak years for dance on Radio 1. 2 factors for that was dance music was at it's most creative that I can remember, tracks didn't burn out as easy and lots became staple anthems. Every genre was at the top of it's game. Secondly the BBC and Radio 1 in general had more budget and cash to splash. Meaning we got more live shows from Creamfields, Homelands, Ibiza etc. There was nothing like hearing Jules' Saturday show live from Creamfields in 2001 when the atmosphere was electric. Or Pete Tong's Essential Selection on a Friday, live from Ibiza at cafe mambo with the crowd in the back. Just made you want to be there. I think the current crop have picked things up in recent years. The quality of dance music around 10 years ago went through a very, very poor spell. And it was mostly Pete Tong and Annie Mac holding it all together for Radio 1, post Judge Jules, Dave Pearce era. Friday nights are decent right now with Danny Howard's energetic show, Sarah Story covering the deeper side of whats new. And then Pete Tong. We still live in a burnout world, I've noticed all 3 move on very fast from songs, and it's hard to keep up with what they are playing. Last years songs and memories are a million years ago, very few survive as anthems. Even though it will never be as 20 odd years ago, things are in a better place than 10 years ago imo.
  2. Never mind Kylie and Facelift being on the playlist. Jojo is back! Where the hell has she been!? "Get out, right naaawww!"
  3. It's never been the same since Mark Goodier went. Wes looked after the remains quite well for a few years after. But since CD singles, vinyl etc don't count at all anymore it's lost its magic a very long time ago.
  4. Radio 2 is changing so why not try it? We've been hearing less 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's recently on the old 2. Apart from standout massive tunes (Beatles, Sinatra, Queen, Blondie etc). The changes were brave but seem to have worked, so give bingo a go imo. I'd actually like celebrity call bought back for a one off too!

    Hello New Members!

Hello my name is Mr Wellington and I like the colour purple.
  6. You know I just must of missed her. The only ever bit of big brother I ever watched was in 2002. And I was on holiday in Spain, by that point it was down to around 4 so she must have just gone. I remember Jade, Kate and Jonny the fireman but not Adele.
  7. Here's Adele and Andi Durrant actually signing off Galaxy. Capital was coming to be "bigger bolder and brasher" as said. Lasted about 12 months before they became One Direction FM. Shame.
  8. Was she on the same one with Jade Goody? I was never into watching people eating toast at 7am on E4's red button. I remember her being on Galaxy mid 2000s pretty well.
  9. I'm old enough to remember when Adele and Andi Durrant were the last voices to be heard on Galaxy. Until Capital came along and ruined it.
  10. Does he do a good radio show and entertain people? Think that's kind of what really matters here. He may or may not be. But even if he is, it's probably not his style to keep bringing it up and throwing the fact at people in every link. Someone's sexuality has way too much fuss and focus these days anyway imo, people can possess other qualities too. It's not all about what and who they are attracted to, infact it's entitled to be a private matter for them anyway.
  11. It depends how many of the 1950s style old guard are still hanging on. It would be something else to moan about if there's enough of them.
  12. I'm sitting here wondering how long it's been since Steve Lamacq left Radio 1, who did that show but at an 8pm start for you whippersnappers. Feels like Zane has been gone an age too by now.
  13. Meh is the word, just background to me. I hear the odd interesting tune but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen. If I'm driving at that time I may have her on for an hour, but as soon as Jo Whiley comes on at 7 I switch over. Sometimes stay with Sara Cox beforehand.
  14. Going back to Shakira too. Has it been played on Radio 1 in recent years? Like 10 min takeover, or 00's show? Or is it one they still hold on to from 17 years ago? Greg played it a couple of years ago, bygones be bygones I guess. Beyonce is another one. The first time she would have been played on Radio 1 is in early 1998 with Destinys Child No No No, which got to Number 5. She would have been about 17 at that point. Solo probably in 2002 with Work It Out. She's a huge artist and still relevant, but is now 41.
  15. The funny thing is, although a specialist show (which I think is great btw). The 00s show on a Sunday morning. Would think nothing of chucking on Can't Get You Out Of My Head, Love At First Sight, Wow etc I get it's a decade show, but she's still going out on Radio 1 after all if played on there.
  16. Quick! Phone up that bloke at The Sun if he's still there! ?
  17. Truth is for a younger audience 25 or less today, that's where its at. Getting on the Radio 1 playlist isn't quite as relevant as it used to be. It's nothing radio 1 do wrong, just the way of the world and young people's interests now.
  18. Kylie is a one off, she's a master of reinvention. In the late 90s she kind of faded off a bit, but came back in 2000 with spinning around. Which set her up again for the following 15 years. If its getting a lot of tik tok support then I'm pretty sure Kylie isn't too bothered nor her label.
  19. I remember the hips don't lie one. Galaxy and other ilr stations were hammering it in summer 2006, apart from Radio 1. I can't remember if they gave in and played it in the end though.
  20. Didn't one of them send it to you and ask you to put it on?
  21. I don't know from memory. But if the date can be tracked down I'm sure we would have clipped it out or I may have the show itself recorded. EDIT: I've found it! 1st May 2007, the story was Laura went commando at the Sony Radio Awards the night before. Couple of mentions I've found are at the 2hr 10min mark (after Mylo/Miami Sound Machine), and at 2hr 15mins as well. There could be more about but I spotted those, he just puts us down as "the unofficial website". Backstory on it starts around 25 mins in. Couple of website screenshots from the day itself as well. I've used my amazing mspaint editing skills to clean it up, as apparently we are more tasteful in 2023 than 2007. And are a Radio 2 family site now. https://ibb.co/5BZn3wC https://ibb.co/4pmdSDz
  22. There's a difference between adding it to the playlist and spot playing it on the chart show though.
  23. I'm still scarred from that.
  24. Radio 1 played Tina Turner the other day when I tuned in, it's a one of spot play on the chart show it's not gonna piss off all the grime and rap fans with one play really.. And even if you are young, you'd of have to have lived under a rock to not even of heard of her. Strange choice.
  25. Deported to Iran for crimes against technology. Do you remember the one where Scott said we had the exclusives on Laura's clacker (or words like that) on here? I think it crashed the website, probably 2006. I have screengrabs.
