The final song had been chosen
Scott and Chris revealed that they had finally decided which track would end their last Radio 1 show.
They treated the decision with the seriousness of a state secret.
The song had been burned onto a CD, placed in a box and locked away.
Even producer Amy was not supposed to know what it was.
Scott admitted one person behind the scenes had to know for practical reasons, but the pair wanted the reveal to happen only at the end of the final programme.
They had considered several songs and rejected them.
The important thing was finding something which felt right for their friendship rather than simply selecting the most obvious farewell anthem.
Granny Tinder came back for one last attempt
The day’s big returning feature was Granny Tinder.
For around two years, Zofia’s grandmother Lynette had acted as the first filter on her granddaughter’s dating life.
Instead of Zofia swiping through profiles herself, Lynette judged the candidates.
Scott loved the collision between dating-app culture and a grandmother applying an entirely different set of standards.
The final edition used real men on the line rather than simply swiping through profiles.
Harry made a strong first impression
One candidate was Harry, a 25-year-old photographer living in Sheffield who had studied physics and astrophysics.
He talked about travelling, trying to make freelance photography work and staying active on the dating scene despite some bad luck.
Lynette liked the fact he had a proper academic background and was pursuing a creative career.
She also mentioned that her late husband had been a photographer, which immediately gave Harry an advantage.
Other men were considered too, including Kenny, but Harry became Lynette’s preferred choice.
Granny had made her decision, Zofia still had the final say
The whole point of the feature had always been that Lynette could recommend but could not actually make her granddaughter date somebody.
The programme ended with Harry as the final Granny Tinder choice and the question of whether Zofia would agree to meet him.
The answer would arrive the next day.
