5 March 2012: Olly Murs joins Scott’s Sport Relief dance nerves

Olly Murs joins Scott’s Sport Relief dance nerves

Scott spoke to listener Kate, who was preparing to walk across hot coals for charity. He initially advised her to cross as quickly as possible, then had to retract it when listeners pointed out that taking time was apparently the safer approach.

The conversation gave Scott an uneasy comparison for his own weekend challenge: appearing in Let’s Dance for Sport Relief. He could at least reassure himself that a dance routine with Olly Murs did not involve walking over 1,200-degree coals.

Olly joined the show to discuss the performance and immediately revealed the imbalance in their preparation. Scott had been rehearsing for three weeks, while Olly had fitted in only around an hour and 25 minutes, yet Scott was convinced the singer had already become the more polished dancer.

The practical issue was the LMFAO-style costume. Scott had already split a pair of chinos while warming up, and Beccy was deeply unconvinced by his proposed dance belt, an item Scott attempted to describe as essential equipment rather than a spectacularly awkward thong.

Both men asked listeners to watch and vote, with Scott admitting that the prospect of the live performance had made him genuinely nervous. The interview had the pleasant feel of two people trying to raise money while also making each other more anxious about the wardrobe.
