Big Weekend was going to Middlesbrough
Radio 1 had announced Middlesbrough as the location for Big Weekend.
Chris decided the show needed an educational guide.
He adopted an unusually formal voice and began presenting the town’s history like a BBC Four documentary.
The earliest recorded name became part of the lecture.
The industrial revolution was given appropriate music.
Chris noted that Middlesbrough’s population had once been tiny enough for almost everybody in town to fit inside a modern Radio 1 event.
Scott repeatedly questioned whether all the facts were genuine.
Chris insisted the research was solid.
The segment was strange enough for listeners to suggest more local-history editions.
Scott returned to vocal coaching
Rag’n’Bone Man visited Radio 1 and became the latest star to receive Scott’s self-appointed vocal coaching.
The target was “Giant.”
Scott’s technique remained completely unqualified.
He interrupted the singer, demanded more emotion and interpreted lyrics literally as though directing an actor.
Rag’n’Bone Man went along with it.
The result actually sounded impressive.
Chris told Scott he had got more than the usual “extra inch” out of the performance.
Scott took this as further evidence he should continue coaching professional singers.
Bangers reached desperate measures
Scott’s poor run on Bangers had become so bad that he introduced a Golden Envelope.
The envelope represented an attempt to change his luck because normal song selection clearly was not working.
Chris enjoyed the desperation more than the music itself.
The show’s Bangers rivalry remained completely disproportionate to the stakes.
Emily Atack played Innuendo Bingo
At 3pm, Emily Atack took the wet seat for the latest Innuendo Bingo.
Emily had been one of the names used to launch the feature’s return and now finally arrived for the full game.
The revived format had settled quickly into its old rhythm.
Listeners supplied the clips.
Scott cued them.
Chris and Emily tried not to laugh with water in their mouths.
They failed repeatedly.
Scott regarded the amount of water on the set as proof the booking had gone well.
The LOLathon was suddenly close
The programme also confirmed that another 24-hour LOLathon for Comic Relief was coming.
The event would begin the following week.
The show now needed jokes.
Lots of them.
Jordan North was about to take a giant joke book around Britain to collect material.
February was ending by setting up March’s biggest feature.
