28 January 2008: Atomic Kitten, Emma Chawner, and Best Guest Week Final

The climax of Best Guest Week features Atomic Kitten reunited for a charity album project, a chance encounter with X Factor’s Emma Chawner, and the announcement of who’s won the trip to Scott’s dad’s house in Normandy.

Day five of Best Guest Week opens with Atomic Kitten (Natasha Hamilton, Liz McClarnon, and Melanie Blatt) back together after a four-year break to promote a Liverpool-themed charity album of number-one songs. The conversation ranges from their early days in the band to their return, touching on the ongoing media story about whether departing member Kerry Katona was invited back (she wasn’t — the original three-piece formation remained unchanged). They discuss their track on the album and reminisce about previous radio appearances, including a memorable stint with Cilla Black and a game called “The Big Fat Fact Hunt.”

The show then moves to the final guest of the week: Emma Chawner, the 17-year-old singer from Ramsbottom who auditioned for X Factor and faced harsh criticism from the judges, particularly Simon Cowell, who criticised both her and the outfit her father had made. Emma reflects on returning for the live final in December, her subsequent performances at local venues, and her application to Britain’s Got Talent. She discusses the mixed experience of minor fame — meeting fans who recognize her from the show, but also enduring cruel newspaper coverage.

Scott attempts to unite Atomic Kitten and Emma for a performance of “Whole Again,” with Emma potentially becoming a “third kitten,” but Atomic Kitten’s management vetoes the collaboration at the last moment, disappointing everyone involved.

Best Guest Week culminates with Scott and his team (including the unnamed panellist he calls “the one that doesn’t speak”) voting on the week’s best guest. After reviewing Sarah Beeney, Pete Dix, a stretchy-skinned performer, cheerleaders, Atomic Kitten, and Emma, Pete Dix wins, meaning the booking team member claiming the prize will join him at Scott’s father’s house in Normandy to eat cheese, drink wine, and hear Scott’s dad repeatedly tell his story about spooning cheese to Bruce Forsyth.
