Adele Roberts suddenly looked as though she had been training for the jungle
With reports circulating that Adele Roberts might be heading into I’m A Celebrity, Scott remembered something that had happened almost under his nose. A previous Radio 1 project had involved Adele and her girlfriend spending a week eating insects.
At the time it had simply been a strange documentary idea. In hindsight, Scott decided that deep fried ants, scorpions and other unusual food now looked suspiciously like preparation for a jungle challenge, even though the discussion began while the casting reports were still being treated as unconfirmed.
Another boyfriend had failed to explain the full television story
Charlie joined the murky TV past discussion after discovering that her boyfriend had once appeared on Embarrassing Bodies. He had initially mentioned being on television without immediately explaining which programme it was.
The detail came out through friends and left Charlie imagining the worst possible reason for appearing on a show built around medical problems people would normally rather keep private. The transcript makes clear that the issue had been hidden rather than something Charlie would necessarily have noticed herself, and the studio deliberately avoided treating its speculation as a diagnosis.
Chris argued that fame had helped Scott romantically
The discussion moved from reality television into whether simply being on television or radio could make somebody more attractive. Chris told Scott that his Radio 1 profile must have helped him get attention from people who might otherwise never have been interested.
Scott resisted the idea and challenged Chris to prove it. That argument would continue the following day when a listener arrived with a story from Scott’s past which looked, at first, like useful evidence.
Darren’s luck had become almost unreasonable
Ask Me Anything introduced Darren Donaghy, who described himself as the luckiest man in the world. In 2014 he had won a competition for “punching above his weight”, an award built around the idea that his wife was considerably more attractive than him.
The couple were still together, had been married for five years and had two children. Darren then revealed the second part of the story: the previous year he had won £1 million on a scratchcard.
Scott and Chris struggled to think of a better combination of improbable wins. Darren had first become known for an award celebrating his relationship, then had a seven figure lottery success. He said strangers sometimes wanted to rub him for luck, and the show wondered what on earth a third lucky event could look like.
