Chris knew lyrics without knowing stories
Scott had noticed something strange about Chris.
Chris loved music.
He could sing along with songs accurately.
But he often had no idea what the lyrics actually meant.
The words existed as part of the melody rather than as a story.
Scott tested him with Watermelon Sugar.
Chris knew the record.
He did not really know what it was about.
Scott explained the meaning in terms suitable for daytime Radio 1 and decided he had found a new skill.
He could summarise almost any pop song in ten seconds.
Drivers License received the rapid treatment
Chris’s understanding of Olivia Rodrigo’s drivers license did not extend much beyond:
she got a driving licence.
There was something about an ex-boyfriend.
Scott supplied the actual emotional plot at speed.
The idea became a game.
Take a song Chris had heard hundreds of times.
Ask what he thought happened.
Then let Scott explain the whole thing before a ten-second timer expired.
For once, analysing pop lyrics became a race against the clock.
Scott’s app obsession expanded
Chris also pointed out Scott had become obsessed with tracking apps.
Planes could be followed.
Ships could be followed.
Scott had found yet another service capable of showing where moving things were in real time.
The enthusiasm was slightly at odds with Scott’s claim that he was not naturally geeky about transport.
Chris was no longer convinced.
The Who Game returned
Monday’s Who Game unearthed another round of things which had quietly disappeared from everyday conversation.
The feature continued to work best when nobody expected to feel nostalgic about the item until the moment somebody said it aloud.
The quiz headed to Britain’s nudist beaches
Don’t Look It Up used a summer-holiday round.
There are officially designated naturist beaches around Britain.
Scott and Chris had to decide which names were real.
Rocken End on the Isle of Wight was genuine.
Wild Pear Beach in Devon was genuine.
Dangle Cove was invented by producer Travis.
Scott spotted the fake mainly because it sounded exactly like something Travis would make up.
The round also included celebrity pool inflatables, including Rihanna being pictured on a giant swan.
After ten-second song plots, the programme ended with another form of stripping things down.
