26 February 2019: Nicole finally interviewed Eamonn Holmes

Scott became the office fish person

Scott had started another diet.

This one involved fish.

The practical result was that the Radio 1 studio smelled awful.

Chris accused Scott of breaking one of the most basic office rules: do not microwave or eat strong-smelling fish around colleagues.

Scott insisted the food was part of the plan and he had to stick with it.

Everyone else had to live with the consequences.

Instagram reached another milestone

Ariana Grande had become the most-followed woman on Instagram.

Scott and Chris responded by looking in the opposite direction.

Which Radio 1 listener had the fewest followers?

People began sending tiny follower counts.

The show treated having almost no Instagram audience as a new kind of achievement.

The cockerel nominations continued

Mary’s unnamed cockerel still needed a name.

More listeners nominated people they considered idiots, cheats or generally deserving of the honour.

One woman nominated an ex who had invited her for Valentine’s Day dinner and then used the evening to end the relationship.

Scott thought anybody planning a breakup could probably choose one of the other 364 days.

The cockerel saga was becoming the natural successor to the snake.

Nicole Meets began

At 3pm, Radio 1 launched Nicole Meets.

Nicole from Pontypridd had chosen Eamonn Holmes as the celebrity she most wanted to interview in the world.

Scott connected them.

Nicole was visibly, audibly nervous.

Eamonn immediately put her at ease by telling her to imagine they were simply talking in a local café or pub.

Scott translated this into the more Nicole-friendly idea that she was in Wetherspoons with Eamonn.

Then the interview began.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and two bowls of pizza

Nicole asked whether Eamonn could do a Welsh accent or say Welsh words.

The conversation led Eamonn into a story about meeting Catherine Zeta-Jones.

He had already eaten two bowls or plates of food at Pizza Hut and then encountered Catherine outside.

When she asked whether he had eaten, he pretended he had not because he wanted to spend more time with her.

He went back inside and ate again.

Nicole loved the story.

Wales, Ruth and This Morning toilets

Nicole asked where Eamonn had visited in Wales and suggested Pontypridd.

She then moved to his wife Ruth Langsford.

Asked who annoyed him most, Eamonn admitted Ruth could be bossy and contrary with him in a way other people rarely were.

Nicole’s final questions included the practical reality of working on *This Morning*.

Did he ever need the toilet during the programme?

Yes.

Eamonn explained that live television meant timing the trip around advert breaks and sometimes racing Ruth because one presenter needed to remain in the studio.

“Just keep being your way”

At the end, Nicole told Eamonn simply to keep being himself.

Eamonn called her lovely and thanked her for choosing him as number one.

Once the call ended, Nicole said she was shaking and described it as one of the best days of her life.

Scott and Chris had proved the format worked.

Nicole Meets had its first episode.
