Theresa May returned for day two
Radio 1’s Theresa May came back after listeners loved Tuesday’s call.
Scott and Chris had already exhausted most obvious Prime Minister jokes but kept trying.
They asked whether she had a cabinet.
Theresa said she did, although not the same kind as the one at Number 10.
She had also received messages from friends after appearing on Radio 1.
The joke had worked because Theresa herself was completely unfazed by years of people mentioning Brexit every time she gave her name.
The big announcement still did not exist
Wednesday arrived.
The words “the boys have got a big announcement” were now visible on digital radios, televisions and BBC Sounds.
Scott and Chris still did not know why.
Rather than pretend otherwise, they made the missing announcement the feature.
Listeners were invited to supply their own news.
One person announced they were giving up dating for 2019, before immediately describing the kind of man they still wanted to meet.
Another celebrated finally making an adult phone call to get a wing mirror repaired.
A birthday announcement came in too.
The programme was effectively borrowing life updates until it could find something more substantial.
Emily Atack saved the show
Then Emily Atack called from a hairdresser.
She had an announcement.
She would be one of the guests taking part in the return of Innuendo Bingo.
Scott and Chris suddenly had the big news they needed.
The feature had been away long enough for the comeback to feel significant.
There was going to be a new set rather than simply placing two wet celebrities in the corner of the studio.
Emily had played before but said the jungle had made her tougher.
Scott promised the revived version would be even more ridiculous.
A forgotten production note had accidentally become the launch of Innuendo Bingo 2019.
Lewis Capaldi kept his promise
Lewis Capaldi had also promised to record a better version of Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb” after singing it in the studio the previous week.
He delivered.
The recording was made simply, with one phone supplying piano and another capturing Lewis’s voice.
What had begun as a karaoke joke now sounded properly impressive.
Scott and Chris were delighted that Lewis had actually bothered to make it.
Bamboleo became enormous
Bamboleo Wednesday also returned in particularly excessive form.
The show kept filling the instrumental section with archive clips until the feature appeared to go on forever.
For a programme which had spent most of the day trying to invent an announcement, the answer had ultimately been two of its strongest recurring features.
Bamboleo was still alive.
Innuendo Bingo was coming back.
