John Travolta had turned up in Norfolk
Chris arrived with exactly the sort of celebrity story he loves: a major Hollywood star doing something completely ordinary in Britain.
John Travolta had been spotted in Fakenham, Norfolk, including a lengthy visit to Morrisons.
Local staff had suddenly found themselves being interviewed about seeing the star in the shop, with one employee describing the surreal moment of looking up during an ordinary shift and realising Travolta was there.
A security guard said Travolta had approached him, shaken his hand and had a friendly conversation.
Scott and Chris enjoyed the mismatch between Travolta’s film-star status and the very normal setting of a supermarket bread counter.
The Who Game remembered things people had quietly stopped doing
The show then opened up another round of The Who Game, built around things which used to be everywhere but had faded from everyday life.
Listeners suggested FarmVille, Chico and old advertising phone numbers.
One of the strongest entries was the old Facebook ritual of publicly changing your relationship status.
Scott and Chris remembered when becoming “in a relationship” was treated like an announcement, while changing it to “it’s complicated” could create instant drama.
They also remembered people changing relationship statuses during arguments simply to make a point.
Other disappearing habits included clapping at the cinema, putting a pound down to reserve the next game on a pool or snooker table and phrases people once seemed to use all the time.
Pokemon or prescription medicine was harder than it sounded
The quiz introduced one of those categories where two completely unrelated things turn out to have equally ridiculous names.
Scott and Chris had to decide whether a word belonged to a Pokemon or to a prescription medicine.
The entire round depended on the fact that both worlds contain names which sound as though they could have been invented by the same person.
It was a suitably strange end to an afternoon which had begun with John Travolta wandering around Morrisons.
