Chris heard the whistles and knew a convoy was coming
Scott, Chris and Sam Ryder had gone for a drink after the previous day’s show at their usual pub near the BBC.
Chris had an unusual fascination with security convoys and close-protection arrangements.
When he heard police whistles and saw roads being stopped, he knew somebody important was approaching.
The phones came out.
A police escort appeared.
Then the car passed the pub with Camilla visible in the front.
Scott, Chris and Sam cheered at the vehicle like football supporters.
Camilla smiled and gave them a wave.
The show immediately decided the footage would eventually appear in *The Crown*.
Listeners then sent Chris their own convoy videos, which was exactly the encouragement his new obsession needed.
Radio 1 remembered Tom Parker
The mood changed for Bangers.
Tom Parker of The Wanted had died, and Scott spoke warmly about years of interviews with Tom and the band.
He remembered Tom as somebody who was consistently fun to have around and said he was pleased Tom had been able to join The Wanted on tour again despite being seriously ill.
Scott and Chris both chose Wanted songs for Bangers as their own small tribute.
Listeners strongly encouraged them to play both.
The affection around the final tour, and the footage of Tom back on stage with his bandmates, had taken on even greater significance.
A Golden Moment returned to Emeli Sandé
The archive supplied a happier memory too.
The Golden Moment revisited a listener named Cole meeting Emeli Sandé, somebody they absolutely adored.
The quiz then ended the month with Race Horse or Racing Novel, producing titles which sounded plausible in both categories and at least one example listeners insisted existed as both.
March had begun with Jordan North rowing through exhaustion.
It ended with Sam Ryder in a pub, a royal convoy passing outside and Radio 1 remembering one of the pop stars who had been part of the show for years.
