1 August 2018: Horsey Kisser tested Radio 1’s knowledge of ridiculous DJ names

The Who Game returned

Scott was still presenting without Chris and decided to revive one of the show’s old throwback games.

The Who Game was built around things which had once been everywhere and had since slipped out of everyday conversation.

Listeners offered references including Kim Kardashian’s forgotten song, Michelle McManus winning *Pop Idol*, Madonna falling off the stage at the BRIT Awards, friendship bracelets, borrowing somebody else’s phone battery, *The Wild Thornberrys*, Jasper Carrott’s *Golden Balls* and glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to bedroom ceilings.

Scott added his own memories, including having to look in a local newspaper for cinema times and promises to add people to a BT Friends and Family list.

The point was not to crown a serious winner.

It was to hear a reference, realise you had not thought about it for years and give it a massive “who”.

Liz still wanted to marry into Radio 1

Earlier in the week, listener Liz had explained that she liked the idea of marrying into the Radio 1 family.

The problem was that many of the obvious options were disappearing.

Chris Stark was now married.

Greg James was getting married.

Other familiar Radio 1 names were already taken.

Scott had therefore started reviewing some of the remaining single men at the station.

Now he had gone back to those men and played them Liz’s opinions.

That created exactly the awkwardness he had expected.

One response objected to being treated as a “maybe”, insisting he was nobody’s silver medal.

Liz remained interested enough to keep the possibility open, but one proposed solution was essentially that she should call again in two years and see where everybody stood.

Scott had not successfully arranged a Radio 1 marriage.

He had at least turned the station’s dating pool into an ongoing feature.

Real DJ or something Pete Tong invented?

The title story involved dance music.

A guest preparing for a Radio 1 weekend in Ibiza was tested on how well they knew actual producers and DJs.

Scott used clips of Selena Gomez reading names with complete confidence.

The challenge was to decide whether the person really existed or whether Radio 1 had invented them.

“Ross From Friends” sounded obviously fake.

He was real.

Then came Horsey Kisser, introduced as an Amsterdam producer.

That one was fake.

“Pete Biscuit” sounded equally ridiculous.

He was real.

“Posh Ivank”, supposedly an up-and-coming Munich producer, was fake.

The game worked because Selena Gomez’s delivery made almost anything sound plausible.

By the end, even Horsey Kisser sounded like somebody who could genuinely be playing a European club at 3am.

Chris still won Bangers from afar

Chris remained away but had left Scott a supply of Bangers choices.

Scott was annoyed to discover that the absent half of the programme could still win.

Chris’s pick included deadmau5’s “Ghosts ’n’ Stuff”, giving him another victory without needing to be in the studio.

Scott had spent the week proving Radio 1 could continue without Chris.

Bangers was proving Chris could still beat him while nowhere near the building.
