22 December 2017: Iain Stirling’s mum defended his completely fake CV

Iain Stirling replaced Chris

Chris was away for the final show before Christmas, so Iain Stirling joined Scott instead.

Chris had effectively organised his own replacement, and the voice of Love Island settled into the role quickly.

Iain remembered once surprising his parents at home and discovering them sitting in office chairs facing away from the television.

They were watching The Voice and physically spinning the chairs around whenever they liked a singer.

It was the sort of family detail that immediately gave Scott an idea for a prank.

James became the honey trap

Private investigator James returned with a case where the client wanted to test whether his boyfriend would cheat.

This time James himself became the bait.

He engineered a sequence of apparently casual encounters with the target, including meetings at a Costa and a gym, using eye contact and repeated appearances to establish familiarity without making the surveillance obvious.

The plan eventually reached the target’s work Christmas party.

James approached him there and offered his phone number.

The man refused.

His response was essentially that James was not his type.

For most clients, that would have been excellent news: the boyfriend had been given an opportunity to cheat and had rejected it.

The client was not satisfied and wanted James to try again with a different man.

James refused.

He felt the test had already produced a clear answer.

Iain’s mum became an extremely loyal referee

Iain then told his mum that Radio 1 might be considering him for a major job and needed to check his CV.

He claimed he had listed her as a reference.

Scott called pretending to be from BBC HR.

While the conversation continued, Iain fed Scott increasingly ridiculous claims that supposedly appeared on his CV.

His mum loyally tried to support them.

Rather than exposing her son as a liar, she did her best to confirm the invented achievements and protect his chances of getting the imaginary job.

Only afterwards was she told the whole thing had been a prank.

Iain also narrated scenes from Christmas films in his Love Island voice, including the famous Love Actually sequence involving Alan Rickman and Rowan Atkinson.
