21 December 2017: Scott sent Chris’s mum to six life-drawing classes

The annual mum-present trap returned

Scott and Chris revived one of their more dangerous Christmas traditions.

Each presenter secretly chose a present for the other’s mum.

The gift was sent directly to the mother.

Then Scott and Chris had to phone their own mums and pretend the surprise had genuinely been chosen by them.

The aim was to see how convincingly each could defend a present they would never normally have bought.

Scott’s mum got the sausage apron

Chris chose an apron for Scott’s mum decorated with a sausage-related slogan.

This was already an odd choice because Scott said his mum did not spend much time cooking elaborate meals and was perfectly happy with ready-made food.

Scott nevertheless had to call and behave as though he had carefully considered her interests before selecting the apron.

His mum politely played along.

Scott was left trying to explain why a sausage-themed kitchen garment had made him think of her.

Chris’s mum got life drawing

Scott’s revenge was more ambitious.

He sent Chris’s mum a course of six life-drawing classes.

The accompanying message suggested she could learn to appreciate the human form and even floated the possibility that she might eventually try being the model herself.

Chris was horrified.

He then had to call his mum and pretend that this had been his sincere, thoughtful Christmas present.

The possibility of his mother sitting in a room drawing naked strangers was awkward enough.

The possibility of her deciding to pose herself was much worse.

Both mums accepted their strange gifts with admirable grace while Scott and Chris congratulated themselves on making the phone calls as uncomfortable as possible.
