Emily needed help with Christmas dinner
The festive version of Rent a Greg brought in Emily from Cardiff.
Her mum had been unwell for much of the year and normally took charge of the family’s Christmas meal.
This time the responsibility had passed to Emily.
There was one problem.
She could not really cook.
Emily and her brother Alex were brought to a cookery school in London expecting a straightforward lesson that might give them enough confidence to get through Christmas Day.
Scott, Chris and the Rent a Greg team had arranged something considerably bigger.
Tom Kerridge walked in
Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge appeared to teach Emily himself.
He took her through the practical parts of a full Christmas dinner, including the turkey, gravy and proper Yorkshire puddings.
Emily became emotional when she realised who was helping her and why the surprise had been arranged.
The show then made sure the lesson could actually be repeated at home rather than becoming a one-off celebrity encounter.
Emily was sent back to Cardiff with the ingredients, equipment, pots, pans and instructions she needed to cook for nine people on Christmas Day.
Listeners admitted crying at the surprise while Scott and Chris were pleased that Rent a Greg had ended up solving a genuinely useful family problem.
Emily decided Bangers too
Emily remained on the programme long enough to decide Bangers.
One side offered Mis-Teeq’s “Scandalous”, while the other chose The All-American Rejects’ “Dirty Little Secret”.
Emily went for Mis-Teeq.
After the elaborate Christmas-dinner surprise, choosing a song was probably the simpler part of her afternoon.
