Playground Insults had reached Hollywood again
Scott and Chris finally played the new edition of Playground Insults recorded with Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart.
The format had become one of the show’s biggest online successes, with Scott noting that clips from previous rounds had accumulated tens of millions of views.
Before the new encounter, they looked back at earlier pairings including Seth Rogen and Chloë Grace Moretz, Will Smith and Margot Robbie, and Jennifer Lawrence with Chris Pratt.
The attraction was always the same: two stars who knew each other well enough to make the insults personal.
Dwayne and Kevin did not need much encouragement
Johnson and Hart already had a famously competitive friendship from working together.
Once they were seated opposite each other, very little prompting was required.
Each quickly found ways to attack the other’s films, appearance, career and personality while Scott tried to maintain the pretence that this was simply a playground game.
The genuine familiarity between them meant the insults landed differently from two actors meeting only for a press junket.
Scott and Chris had worried beforehand about whether two huge stars would fully commit to the feature.
That concern disappeared almost immediately.
Nikki Grahame returned behind the Ho-Vent door
The show’s retro Christmas calendar also revisited Nikki Grahame’s famous Big Brother diary-room meltdown and its enduring “Who is she?” line.
Elsewhere, listener Natalie called after hearing the previous day’s Ghostbusters and confessed that she had once been the ghost.
She described herself as a “friendly ghost” because the date itself had been perfectly pleasant; she had simply lost interest and then failed to explain that properly.
Hearing the feature from the other person’s perspective had made her feel guilty about disappearing.
