Strictly accidentally revived an old Radio 1 joke
Scott and Chris had been watching the Strictly Come Dancing final when Joe McFadden was announced as the winner.
The repeated cries of “It’s Joe! It’s Joe!” immediately reminded them of an old clip from the 2009 Christmas chart battle between Joe McElderry and Rage Against the Machine.
The similarity was enough for them to jokingly accuse Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly of listening to the programme.
They also replayed the Christmas single Scott, Chris and former team member Beccy had made five years earlier, complete with as many deliberate festive clichés as they could fit into one song.
Ben became the first male Ghostbusters case
Ghostbusters returned with Ben, the first man to ask the show to investigate somebody who had disappeared from his messages.
Ben had met a woman at an event and then gone on several dates with her. One involved ping pong, and the pair continued texting afterwards.
Then one evening Ben mentioned that he was ordering pizza.
His choice was unusually precise: a small, thick-crust cheese-and-tomato pizza with bacon.
After that message, she stopped replying.
The timing was so exact that Scott and Chris became convinced the pizza order had somehow caused the ghosting.
The ghost declined to explain
The show tried calling the woman and initially reached voicemail.
A member of the production team eventually spoke to her privately.
She did not want to come on the radio.
The team specifically explained the theory about Ben’s pizza and asked whether its size or toppings had put her off, but she would neither confirm nor deny it.
That left Ben with slightly more information than before — she knew the show had called — but still no actual explanation for why she disappeared.
Scott and Chris accepted that Ghostbusters could not force somebody to discuss a date on air and declared her the ghost that got away.
