The toast myth had escaped into listener life

Dear Scott heard from somebody who smelled toast and immediately remembered the recent discussion about spontaneous combustion. The programme had to revisit the claim and the unreliable folklore surrounding it, a reminder that even obvious jokes could linger once repeated on air.

Pete Tong was described all over again

The public returned to the task of describing Pete Tong in three words, reviving some of the strange language generated by the earlier survey. The famously odd “horse for one bin” phrase remained part of the show’s vocabulary despite being difficult to explain outside the programme.

Beccy found a horse and a toilet seat

The classifieds produced a life-size cardboard horse alongside a second-hand toilet seat. The latter prompted an immediate hygiene debate, while the horse at least had the advantage of never having been installed in a bathroom. In the week of Christmas, Beccy was still finding gifts nobody had requested.
