Scott’s birthday present transformed the bath
Chris had bought Scott a bath board.
The wooden board sat across the tub and included spaces for tea lights, a phone or tablet and a wine glass.
Scott had recently moved house and had barely used the bath.
Now he suddenly understood the appeal.
Chris had personalised the board with one of the show’s newest catchphrases.
Tyrone Mings’ Lolathon advice:
RELAX.
With a suitably excessive number of A’s.
Scott declared it one of Chris’s better presents.
Emma had seen Tom Hanks — probably
Listener Emma believed she had encountered Tom Hanks in St Albans.
She saw a man in the street.
He went into Caffè Nero for coffee.
Something about him looked and sounded familiar.
Emma became convinced it was one of the most famous actors in the world casually wandering around Hertfordshire.
Scott and Chris immediately wanted proof.
Why would Tom Hanks be in St Albans?
The possible answer was that he was involved with the new *Pinocchio* production.
That made the sighting just plausible enough to be interesting.
The evidence was not especially strong
Under questioning, Emma’s certainty began wobbling.
She had not got a clear photograph.
She had not had a proper conversation.
The identification depended heavily on appearance, voice and circumstance.
Scott kept repeating the central accusation:
“You’re Pinocchio.”
In other words, was Emma telling porkies?
The show never obtained definitive proof either way.
The possibility remained much more fun than certainty.
Scott found a fellow extra-brass enthusiast
The programme also met somebody who shared Scott’s long-standing belief that pop songs can usually benefit from more brass.
Trumpets and horns were added to records which had not originally asked for them.
Scott had been doing this sort of thing for years.
Finding another person with the same instinct felt like discovering a musical relative.
The Who Game revisited more forgotten culture
Monday’s nostalgia round returned with things listeners had not considered in years.
The feature’s real skill was making something very recent feel historical.
A phrase, app or object could disappear from everyday life for only a few years and still provoke a full Whooo.
