Friday began in the usual noisy fashion
It’s Only Bley Friday gave Scott the excuse for the familiar end-of-week shout, while listener messages ranged from aggressive birds to callbacks about the Peter Powell workout. Barry Manilow and musical-theatre chatter helped give the day the slightly chaotic Friday feeling the feature was designed to celebrate.
Dirk Benedict became a prank caller
Dirk Benedict, familiar to listeners from The A-Team, joined the programme and was given a task rather less glamorous than television action. He phoned Radio 1 listeners with a knock-knock joke and committed to the silliness, with turkey and Gobble Boy jokes becoming part of the call.
Chappers and the BBC office network supplied more nonsense
Mark Chapman’s When Sport Goes Bad material included another selection of deliberately poor jokes, while messages sent around the BBC’s internal office network revealed strange workplace requests and favours. The episode moved easily from a Hollywood guest to office emails without pretending either deserved more dignity than the other.
