It's a bizarre thing though....it would be nice to hear a few more tracks from the past 10 years mixed into daytime.
However, at the other extreme, I find it odd how often really old tracks come up on Anthems and even the likes of Soundsystem Party and Dance Anthems. The odd throwback is great but sometimes it feels too much.

Yep I really struggled with Matt & Jamie which was a shame as otherwise really like Matt.
Unfortunately it comes across on-air whether it's actually try or not that Jamie doesn't know a lot about radio and doesn't seem particularly desperate to improve either or if I'm being generous he's playing an act - neither of which particularly appeals.
The everyman act can sometimes work but you need to have that natural likability and appeal for it to do so in the way that way Chris Stark did.
I mean even towards the end of his stint with Matt Jamie was struggling with getting the Whatsapp number right which is a basic.
I hate reverse snobbery and I post this reluctantly as we shouldn't hold Jamie's background against him, but I do think many listeners will find it hard to identify with Jamie. One of the things that made Jordan so popular was he sounded like the mate you go for a pint with who always has a great story to tell.

Agree with most of this above. Listening to only vick and katie today, I was thinking that it doesn't need Jamie. Its very jarring how sometimes he's there and sometimes he isn't. I don't think it needs to be a trio.
Surely there are bigger problems at the moment, Danny on a pretty big slot on the station is literally unlistenable.
I dunno if it is me but even Vick and Katie don't sound as good in that slot alone as they did before.
Maybe I have just fallen out of love with it all.

Clara was always a decent, competent and even good music radio presenter.
But equally, she never provoked really strong emotions in me that I must listen or must switch off.

See I don’t agree…I think the three way dynamic is not really working. Vick & Katie are really great together and I enjoy Vick & Jamie together. It’s something between Katie & Jamie that’s not gelling for me. However it’s early days and they are still much better than some other combos. Plus Matt & Jamie were radio comedy gold for me so I don’t think Jamie’s the problem. Just maybe didn’t need to be a three.
Jamie is definitely very divisive though. Some people's "radio comedy gold" is other people's "unlistenable". I have liked Matt and Mollie, Matt on his own, Mollie and Jordan etc etc. But couldn't listen to Matt with Jamie.
No hate on Jamie but I just don't like his sense of humour.

The dynamics of this are interesting. Jordan works best with people he knows and he already knows Chris and Sian so from day one it should sound fairly natural.

I was invested in the show when it was Vick and Jordan / Katie - now I don't pay attention and might leave the station when Jordan starts on Capital. What I do hear is a mix of formulaic and awful.
It's strange how one person leaving a station can affect your outlook on the whole station.

Future radio 1 breakfast host by the looks of things
With Greg staying on and Jordan gone - my money is on Sam and Danni but not for at least 2 years.

My point wasn't that the challenge was fake - though obviously some of the timings are managed to fit a finish during Going Home even though it went wrong yesterday.
What I meant was some of the drama is clearly theatre. I mean Matt and others have been genuine and touching about personal stories and I am not suggesting fake but there is certainly added theatre along the way to create better radio and fuel donations.

Makes sense I think its the thing that I’ve never made much sense of radio being a big thing on television sets not with since the rise of smart speakers in peoples homes that they no longer have to be reliant on a television set or a radio with the signal of the station. It may have been handy with places where couldnt pick up stations on DAB or FM in area and signal was crackly but dont think many people have a traditional television set up of aerial and cable programming through wires and boxes all apps and that and that is what BBC has managed to successfully delivering with Sounds available on smart televisions and boxes excluding Apple TV boxes.
Yes - let's not forget how long radio stations have been on TV - since the early 90s. It used to be the only easy way of listening to stations you couldn't get on FM and the chance to hear some MW/AM stations in better quality. Different world really...

Yes, especially when weekend afternoons on most radio stations never is where a big audience is for radio listeners its a more leisurely and casual time of the week on radio and most stations keep it as very playlist heavy with casual conversation
It also feels a bit "beneath" Roman.. filling in for high profile slots on Radio 2 feels more likely.
-
Jordan likes keeping his private life private - that’s going to create questions. But whatever the case it’s his business.
-
Roman Kemp would be far too expensive for that slot.

Great post as ever however after recent events. I have no clue atm i will give this one some thought and post back soon. However i think Greg will be gone before 2027
That's my view too. Most of us had been predicting Matt leaving and Greg leaving and being replaced Jordan.
When we think of the biggest still upcoming talents on the station such as Sam and Danni and Jack Saunders we would expect central roles. But now who could predict them not leaving for bigger jobs elsewhere!
Right now my best guess until the end of 2025 is stability with maybe a few minor changes to specialist shows. (Maybe Daniel P Carter moving on, maybe some of the Dance DJs being snapped up for bigger roles elsewhere, there is amazing talent in Danny, Sarah, Charlie Tee and Jeremiah).

Jamie is off today - the show sounds absolutely fine!
-
Not a shock as in the interim it allows Katie to have from Thursday evening to Monday morning with her husband and it was obvious Vick was going to exit from the show even before the Jordan saga.
Also gives Lauren as a cover presenter for the whole station.
-
But 2 years really isn't that short...so many daytime shows over time have lasted that or less.
If it was a true disaster it would have lasted 6 months.
(And I am saying this as a non-fan).
It's not a success story clearly but not a disaster either.
-
The more I think about this, the less I understand it.
Vick and Katie would be a good Going Home show without Jamie.
What did happen in the aftermath of Jordan leaving. Did Katie initially turn it down and they persuaded her to change her mind? Did they see the reaction to Jamie and see that they needed Katie to balance out the loss of Jordan?
Some odd chain of events has happened

It is definitely a failure and they’re both going to lesser slots, whatever the spin. Grimmy leaving Drive was his decision after a long successful stint at Radio 1.
It seemed pretty random to me when the appointment was made. They’d never done a show together. Vicky had no regular slot on Radio 1. And when you pair people up, it so often doesn’t work - it really needs to be trialled first.
The people involved have got to be great broadcasters and genuine friends. Vicky just seems to giggle at everything. I’ve always found it really hard to listen to and that’s so rare for me to say about a Radio 1 show. But it has me turning off. Roll on July.
Don't get me wrong - the show being axed says that the station accepted it was no longer the right thing to continue with but "disaster" is too strong. They didn't kill the ratings. (And I am saying this as somebody who never really liked the show).

Judge Jamie - that would be carnage 🤣
I couldn't really listen today, when I switched on they were doing the something songs and it sounded like Katie and Vick were getting fed up with Jamie's interjections.... comments like 'lovely story Jamie, but let's hear what Listener's story is' (I forget the name of the listener, they used her name).
I was pleasantly surprised when I listened yesterday, but I do think to make this work long term is going to take a lot of work from all involved.
I gave it another try today and still didn’t warm to it and your comment is the biggest problem.
Jamie just won’t shut up but doesn’t seem to realise when he is adding no value.
We all know Jordan wasn’t as random as he pretended to be. He knew exactly what he was doing but that’s because he is a skilled presenter who is obsessed with his craft.
The contrast couldn’t be (Chris) starker.

I was gutted when Jordan left - that was my favourite show on the station but I found Sam and Danni a decent replacement...whereas this...
