The music on Capital is a bit repetitive but I am not sure it is so much worse than Radio 1 these days. Radio 1 probably has the odd more surprising track and a bigger variety of genres.
As I have bored people before - I am a big fan of the show. Yes it is pretty structured and yes Jordan is a much more professional and less random version of himself but it's a great listen, fun, warm and feels very familiar in the morning to have everything in the same place each day.
I often leave Capital on much of the day partly due to having been really busy at work and it is just wallpaper and partly as the Radio 1 line-up isn't must-listen for me these days.

Chris' wife made an appearance on Capital Breakfast this morning. Did she ever appear on Radio 1? Jordan called her to ask if Chris could have a sleepover at his tonight before they fly to Scott's wedding after the show tomorrow.

Jordan mentioned that him and Chris are going to Scott's wedding in Barcelona in a few weeks.

It's amazing how stable that slot has been over the past 20 years - 3 presenters only.
By comparison, the previous 20 years seen 8 or 10 presenters depending how you measure it. (Whether you treat Kevin and Zoe as separate to Zoe and whether you count Mark Goodier's 4 months on Breakfast as more than just cover).

Actually the worst tends to be those who comment on Radio Today news stories.
People who haven’t listened to younger oriented radio stations in years who say things like “who?” about any job going to any presenter aged younger than 50.

Connor Coates is a great dance presenter and he left Cool FM a while ago so you imagine him and Arielle will be the live shows on Radio 1 Dance

Sad I missed it @xxladybarefootxx - i was too late for tickets for the live show then I had to skip last night as the nearest cinema was an hour on the train and I had a business trip starting today. I imagine it will be released on Amazon Prime or Netflix. Surreal how big it has become.

I get not putting resources into X which these days is a strange mix of angry political debate and adult content only.
But you'd think Facebook was still the most popular social channel amongst Radio 2 audiences.

Like I said before, when I had people with 0 interest in radio whatsoever and it was in the background telling me to turn it off, you know it's bad. I saw a random friend from years ago even posting on fb with how has someone like Danny ended up on r1. Everywhere you turn its negative. Doesn't that multiply across the uk in what the r1 audience actually think of this presenter?
I'm in the LGBTQ+ community and also r1 target audience but I don't feel I want to listen to this presenter because of that fact. Has some policy actually overtaken the true risk of driving audiences away?
The fact is just how @coffeeandgin said, Danny has had chance since March with 2 shows a week and is still not up to the job. The odd podcast yes but certainly not to replace m&m! I've skipped through 10 minutes of this week to make sure I wasn't basing opinions on how it was before and yes it is the same level.
When you had presenters like Scott who could keep it fresh despite how many years it had been, but then Danny sounds so out of date already, saying you could tune over to Rylan on r2... but then with a topic of "I want to know what have you missed out on?" I'm sorry?! What kind of local radio is that... it's meant to be radio 1 ffs.
Terrible talking points, cringe, unfunny, and so bad on the radio it actually makes it jarring and makes people switch over.
I think at least part of the problem is that a lot of Danny's act is based around Drag humour which (a) isn't for everybody (b) has to be so tamed down for daytime radio, it just becomes silly and (c) it is humour generally consumed on a night out with lots of alcohol taken!

But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender.
Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation. Yes I want representation but only on merit. Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.

Seems clear to me, though, that if Jordan hadn’t left, then Katie would’ve taken Dean and Vicky’s slot and Matt and Mollie would’ve stayed on weekends, which probably explains why they haven’t picked a replacement yet. If it was going to be the obvious choice, I.e. James Cusack, surely they would’ve announced it by now..?

Nobody would ever have credibly predicted Jordan leaving and all the changes that followed. I have another interest outside radio and it is exactly the same - the stuff you never expect to happen is exactly what does.

A few weeks in and I am actually loving the show and Jordan is a nice mix of his old chaotic self and dare I say it a slick jock.

Even for the older Radio 1 listeners (of which there are still quite a few) Scott’s show doesn’t feel quite right. (That’s nothing on Scott who sounds good but more the station sound and content).
Since moving to Capital Breakfast I haven’t been listening to much Radio 1. I always found the shows outside of Breakfast and Drive more wallpaper due to my working day and the show content of RMC and Dean and Vicky so Capital is just background noise to me after enjoying Breakfast.

Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing. Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently.
It really is a very decent listen.

Indeed and Jordan was already friends with Sian Welby, Will Manning and Jimmy Hill.

Vick and Jordan together on Insta (with Ariel’s) in Ibiza. You do imagine Jordan’s ex colleagues have a very different attitude to him than management. Comments on Help! And very subtle comments on Capital Breakfast suggest Jordan was frustrated with Radio 1 / BBC management.

At a time when Radio 1 has surely lost listeners to Capital at Breaktast you’d be trying to protect the station so people switch back. Certainly yesterday I didn’t switch back to Radio 1 at all.

I hate to admit it but I think there is an age thing here too.
I hadn't given up on Radio 1 as I found Radio 2 too old but I am finding Capital's music is sort of working for me. It helps that outside Breakfast it is pure wallpaper.
