I guess the 10 min takeover is as close as you get, as that just has to be in the playout system. Still not the same though, I agree!

Occasionally they've managed to get into Radio 2's system to go 'rogue' on a Friday. They played Fleetwood Mac "Everywhere" on the breakfast show the other week.

Pretty sure the old Saturday afternoon request show with Reggie Yates was literally anything goes.

  2. There's one for Radio 1, so may as well start an equivalent thread for Radio 2.

OJ Borg is in for Rylan tomorrow afternoon.

Judi Love is in for Rob Beckett on Sunday afternoon.

Ronnie Wood (from the Rolling Stones) is sitting in for Cerys Matthews on the Blues show on Monday 19th December

Adele Roberts is covering Radio 2's early breakfast show from the 19th till 23rd December.

  3. The BBC have been trying to ditch it for years. Some of the artists they've had on over the past few years haven't exactly been big chart names like previous Christmas specials, and last year's ratings were poor. That said, as a Christmas tradition, I did usually sit and watch it.. so it's a shame it's gone. The BBC claim the cost of doing up the big studio, and filming for a one off special isn't justifiable.

Sunday love songs new host and or different time slot,  Pick of the pops new host and a permanent replacement for Rob Beckett.

Adele to go before Matt but Adele’s position depends more on shuffling around the network. Matt will be more his timing imo.

Sunday Love Songs is pretty much Steve's show, I can see it ending when he leaves the BBC.

I agree about next year being a year of stability with the Radio 1 schedule. We've had massive change in the past couple of years. Greg will be on breakfast for as long as he wants to do it in my opinion (within reason... Although slightly biased, I do think Radio 1 have the better breakfast show over Radio 2).

We’ve got Jamie Laing doing the breakfast show for a week? Oh dear, feels a very radio 2 move rather than R1. Looking at who’s on that week it would have made the most sense to either put Katie and Jordan on breakfast and then Matt and Jamie on drive or Jordan on breakfast and Katie doing drive both single-handedly

Even Radio 2 breakfast is covered by Gary Davies or Vernon Kay so strong pairs of hands. Matt has done the week after new year solo before, so it's baffling why they would change that.

The 2pm-6pm TBA slot has turned into half an hour "Christmas Day on Radio 1" slots from 2pm-6pm which makes me think we are getting Christmas artist takeovers possible on that day.

More than likely. Still a decent line up, presumably live between 8 and 2, and a Greg James special in the evening.

Still no confirmation on Radio 2's Christmas Day schedule. Would be nice to see Scott continue the tradition of a live Christmas day show... Although wouldn't surprise me that the move to R2 sparks the end of that. It'll almost certainly be 'Good Morning Sunday/Christmas' and Junior Choice with Anneka Rice in the morning.

  8. I definitely think Jordan would jump at the chance of doing the Christmas Day breakfast show, although it'd be a shame if he finished doing the NYE show as that's become a bit of a tradition. Wouldn't surprise me if someone like James Cusack did that instead.

  9. I personally think he'll end up on drive or breakfast. The only thing I can see stopping the latter is that I don't see Zoë Ball giving up on breakfast just yet (without them offering her another high profile slot, even then I can't see it happening yet), and history repeating itself with Sara Cox taking over, who was the favourite to replace Chris Evans last time.

As for Ken, unless Helen Thomas really wanted to be really bold, I really cannot see the urgency to replace him yet. The station has already changed massively over the past 3 years both in presenter line up, and change in music policy. I also question the urgency of replacing Steve Wright now to be fair. When the time comes, hopefully it's Ken's decision. As for potential successors, it'll be someone established at R2 familiar with the listeners.

OJ Borg would be a good shout, he's been on overnights for a few years now, so hopefully he progresses to daytimes at some point. That show would then be a good candidate for the show outside of London as well as he's based in Salford. Vernon Kay would also be a good shout, although it's be a good idea for him to starting to build up some more prominent daytime cover more frequently (he has done some breakfast and afternoon cover) but hasn't so much lately for whatever reason. I imagine depending on any other changes in the future, Sara Cox and Zoë Ball would also be likely names to be thrown into the hat.

I totally think the choice of Dean and Vicky to replace Scott was the fact that A. it's from Salford and B. they are new and young and have potential to be a new drive show when Greg goes, with Jordan and Vick on breakfast

They could be on daytime a good 10-14 years I would say

I totally think it was governed by Salford though, if it had been London based, then naturally should have been Matt & Mollie although Matt is in the Grimmy/Scott/Adele zone now of being slightly too old to start a daytime show, and may just hang out on weekends and be main weekday cover, I can see them covering drive if J&V take the same leave

He used to cover drive for Greg back in the day

Age shouldn't always be a factor. Ricky, Melvin & Charlie are all in their late 30's/early 40's and they've progressed to daytime. The Salford thing does add an issue, but yeah it did feel like Matt missed the boat for daytime a while.

There was a time a few years back when the 'B' team (Adele, Dev, Alice and Matt) were just as strong as the 'A' team imo, all missed out on major daytime slots with the longevity of Greg, Scott and Grimmy (which is testement to how good they are/were). The current crop of presenters that have come through in the past 5 years through till recently are having the opposite happen due to how many presenters have left/shuffled around the schedule since Aled took charge, where they're gaining slots and progressing up the schedule quite quickly.

Agree completely about Clara - she just isn't the 'musical authority'  to hold that show for me, but I don't see anything changing soon there as I have a hunch Jack (the only other current potential successor) will bypass that show and end up on Daytime somewhere.

I'm very much hoping that 'Dean and Vicky' is a significantly better show than Dean has managed. To be fair, he has gotten better, he seemed quite out of his depth in the beginning but I haven't warmed to him particularly. He was quite good covering for Scott & Chris once (with Katie?), so depending on the new duo dynamic it could be ok.

My worry is that putting together a new duo on air for a weekday daytime slot is always a risk. I agree that Dean works well with a co presenter to bounce off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't help but think maybe if Vicky had been on with Dean on weekends, then it wouldn't be as much of a surprising choice of replacement for Scott & Chris. As you say, Dean & Katie have covered the 1pm slot a few times. The whole relocating shows to Salford has played a big part in who they chose. It'll be interesting to see how they get on, as it's a quick rise to weekdays for Dean (a year), and even more so for Vicky (first permanent show on the station)

  12. Just want to thank you Scott and Chris. Your show has been brilliant over the years and has meant so much to me, I've had days when I've felt pretty low.... But you have felt like a group of friends who I can count on to cheer me up. I'm sure many others will echo how your genuine friendship comes across on air, and how genuinely nice you both come across. I like routine, and listening to Radio 1 and your show has been part of my day for years, so I'm really sad that you're leaving ?I'll be making the switch to Radio 2 in the afternoons in the Autumn though.

Good luck lads and all the best to both of you at Radio 2 and Global.

You can really tell it’s peak summer holiday season! It will be nice to hear Jordan solo again - I don’t think that’s happened since NYE! Who is Ifan Davies? I recognise the name but not sure where? Was he one of last year’s Christmas presenters?

Power Down Playlist cover over the Christmas 2021 period.

Also notice that Ben Coley is doing Best New Pop next week, as Emil has done For the past two weeks.

I think (and hope tbh) that Best New Pop will go when Mollie starts her new show. It makes zero sense at that time and would either be better if it aired before EB at 4.30am or if it was just a sounds original. I reckon it also needs a bit of a rebranding into a general New Music Friday show, because often there are massive releases that they miss because they aren’t particularly ‘poppy.’

I agree. They used to play many of the new releases on a Friday (whether they went on the playlist them or not). That seemed to quietly slip away.

Yeah, if anything the regular cover of Breakfast and afternoons/drive if both are away would probably be a bit of a sweetener for Matt & Mollie remaining on weekends.

With afternoons moving to Salford, I doubt Matt & Mollie will ever cover that slot again, and in the rare case of Vick & Jordan being off (as we saw last week) Katie Thistleton and/or Arielle would probably be more likely.

It will be interesting to see if they insist on cover when one of Dean or Vicky are off (as per drivetime), or let them present solo.

  16. I'd personally want (and tbf expect if he wanted it) Vernon Kay to be offered a full time role at some point. Social Media reaction is in reality a small snapshot of overall audience, however... it's very rare a cover presenter gets an overwhelmingly positive response as Vernon does.

I think this wouldn't be a bad lineup in a few years

Overnights Owain Wynn Evans (from Salford)

Early Breakfast- OJ Borg (from Salford)

    Breakfast-Sara Cox

Mid Morning- Ken Bruce for a little while longer... succeeded by Vernon Kay

Lunchtime current affairs show- Tina Daheley

    Afternoons- Scott Mills

    Drivetime-Zoe Ball

Jo Whiley and Trevor Nelson's show sit perfectly where they are

Bit gutted Scott and Chris arnt on breakfast for the last time before they leave I wonder if going forward dean and Vicky will cover breakfast

I can't see why they wouldn't still use Matt & Mollie on breakfast. It doesn't really make sense for them to come off their own show and travel all the way down to London.

  18. I'm intrigued to see how the final week of August/start of September will be covered, will they extend the morning and drivetime shows like they did last year when Grimmy left? Dean (and Vicky) and Katie will all be starting their new shows the following week so unless it's a chance to give some of the newer presenters a shot at covering a prominent slot or Matt & Mollie are about that week?

Late night Innuendo Bingo, Lolathon 2017. Need I say more?

Literally came to say this. 02:30 in the morning, it was like a weird dream! The 'Jazz FM' clip being the highlight. The first Lolathon the best they did imo!

I do vaguely remember listening to some of the prank call stuff on drivetime when I was younger.. it's good some of it's still on YouTube.

Scott's prank on Chris with Jennifer Aniston must be up there as well..

I'm thinking (hoping) for M&M to take Scott's show, Katie & Jordan to replace them, James Cusack for Dean's show and Jack for the chart. Guess we'll find out soon!

Just curious, why would they seperate Vick & Jordan so soon, and move him back to weekends? Jordan's arguably one of Radio 1's biggest 'stars' now, probably destined for breakfast in a few years.
