Seconded on that, even Boom plays 21st Century Music! Boom! From when it has been on when at older relatives the adverts are a dead giveaway who it is for as they are all targeted at 65+ people. But the fact that a station that entirely exists for pensioners has a more current music policy than what is supposed to be a station with a large audience across a reasonably wide age range.  Boom doesn't play much "current music" but George Ezra and stuff like that iirc from what I know but the fact it plays any is sort of damning on the entire format of GHR. I wouldn't voluntarily listen to any commercial radio but Virgin is definitely one of the better options

The programme could always be shortened slightly (and/ or expand the Album Chart feature), to account for too much repetition ...

I'd say it was an integral and iconic part of BBC Radio's offerings ... But then, I used to think that of the Classified Football Results.

Yeah, I was using it as a point of comparison with Virgin - Also it cannot be repeated too many times how utterly ridiculous a 'No 21st Century' policy is .....

I’d consider making it from atleast reduce it to 17:00-17:45
But embed it in new programme of ‘Radio 1’s Trending Show’ reflect some show-biz music and entertainment news look at some of the movies out at the weekend and what to watch on streaming and also highlight the trending songs on TikTok and a future artist of the week.

... Soddit, reading back through this, it occurs to me I've been persisting with the show for 2 years now - That's long enough - I'm sticking with Huw, on Radio Wales (Mollie's 'Future Pop' on Thurs still a good listen, though ...)

Possibly, although the media have been on the case too. I think it was becoming difficult to defend with Shania and Anne-Marie on the playlist, and Elton turning up for an interview. They could argue some of the songs they've dismissed before were low in the charts - but she's in the top 10 and that's probably going to rise.

That's what I assumed the 'rationale' to be, too. Unfortunately, she'll often go on to add insult to injury by mentioning the key information (i.e. artist name!) as a throwaway mumble at the end!  Unless you've got a device which shows you the tracks being played (and maybe that's an automatic assumption also, on her part), you're gonna miss it ...

At first, I thought CA was a fine replacement for Annie Mac, at least in terms of not seeming to take herself so seriously.  Over time, however, there is just something about the tone of voice she employs (on 80% of her links) that's really started to grate.
I've been struggling to describe this in a way that someone who has never heard it might get - My best effort for now is - Imagine someone having to speak-up at a noisy Wedding Reception, so the DJ can hear what she is requesting him to play - Not only that, but with a rising inflexion which hangs in the air just long enough to suggest either that she thinks the DJ is a bit slow-on-the-uptake, or that he is an Australian, and that's her way of trying to ingratiate herself with him.
That she chooses to speak in this way is demonstrated by this latest Glastonbury trailer, in which she does none of the above - i.e. there is a pleasing touch of 'bass' in her voice every time she is about to reach a punctuation point : https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0frf1zb/bbc-trailers-glastonbury

Anecdotally I've seen some Ken Bruce listeners returning, saying he's a safe pair of hands and doesn't have the adverts like GHR (unless you pay). Given no mass exodus when Steve Wright left, and some green shoots under Vernon Kay, hopefully R2 can stabIlise things.
The station also sounds great with the new jingles.

Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge what a superb job Vernon Kay has made of the 'new' slot - Far exceeded my expectations. Also very wisely 'feature'-heavy - I don't think there's any other light-entertainment show elsewhere on the radio which can hold a candle to this ...

Old Codger Fan reacted to Roger98 in Final Ever Radio 1 Shows
Good afternoon, I am also new here, and I have decided to share some more Final BBC Radio 1 shows that I stumbled upon
This was Roger Scott's last show on BBC Radio 1 where he only joined the previous year after 15 years on Capital, he died of cancer on the 31st of October 1989 at the age of 46, so a very poignant final programme
Here is Tony Blackburn who launched Radio 1 back in 1967 is hosting his final show there in 1984, he is of course still on the air on BBC Radio 2
During his time on BBC Radio 1 Peter Powell was an early champion of many successful 1980s acts like Spandau Ballet, Culture Club and Duran Duran, he was also associated with the Radio 1 Roadshow and hosted the Radio 1 Weekend Breakfast Show, he is now retired from broadcasting
This is Simon Bates last show on Radio 1 broadcasted live from New York's Carnegie Deli
From that very same day, here are large chunks of Bob Harris' last Radio 1 show
Finally something more recent, here is Judge Jules' last Radio 1 show after 15 years on the station
That's it and I hope you enjoy them!

I'm quite enthused about the new pairings announced for the evenings, as from June - Deb Grant & Tom Ravenscroft / Marc Riley & Gideon Coe ...
Will be interesting to see how the general 'feel' of these shows compare to the other options out there, in terms of a place to go to discover new tunes ...
