  1. Oh I suppose I want to add to what I just said about not minding Jamie and being okay with him getting the drive slot - I would feel completely differently if it had been Katie joining Vick, with Jamie as the last minute third host.  If that had happened then I would feel annoyed at an unnecesary celebrity hire had been brought in - I hated the Maya Jama - Scott -Chris Friday situation when that was going on. I do think Jamie is better than Maya was though, in many ways.

  2. Maybe an unpopular opinion from me on this one - I didn't mind it. I quite like Jamie, I laughed out loud every time I listened to him when he was on with Matt, and the show today was quite entertaining. I'm not overly upset that he's posh or not really clued up on the opportunity he has been given - it's a job he's getting paid for, and someone decided to hire him, so that's not really his fault. He's not stuck up and he's able to laugh at himself, so he could do well if he knuckles down and at least tries to learn from the environment he is in.

My problem is that it was a bit crowded.  I love Katie so much, and she always has such lovely and funny stories to tell, I feel she was cut short in a lot of today's show. Which leads me to my second unpopular opinion - without Jordan there, I would have just preferred it to be Katie and Jamie.  I'm not the biggest fan of Vick. I have tried, but I find her too giggly and not always forthcoming with anything other than innuendo.  Personally, I can see why they brought Katie in last minute to save the dynamic, but as a trio I think there is too much going on.

Will have to see how it develops I suppose, but Vick on air admitted how the show has always had such a mixture of presenters because of everyone taking holidays, so it does make me wonder how often the 3 of them will be together anyway.

  3. Such lovely news, and Chris and Roman both seemed quite emotional from the clip they shared.

I wonder if they will replace her or leave Chris and Jordan as a pair for a while? I'm not familiar with how they do things on Capital, but they would certainly be able to bring that 'lad' quality to the air together.  Scott always said that the everyman was under-represented on R1 before Chris joined, and Capital will have two of them fronting the breakfast show. It will be interesting to see what happens there, as they would have to pick Sian's replacement very carefully at such an early stage in Jordan's time on the show.

  4. Well, this has me turning the radio off on Friday and Saturday when Katie leaves that slot! So pleased for her though, she comes across as such a genuine and warm person, her announcement makes it really feel like this was a surprise offer to her. I can't help but feel that I wish she had been given her own weekday show - I would have loved her to be taking over from RMC.

But, she seems happy, she's joining drive time which is obviously a huge gig, and I wish her all of the success from here. I hope she doesn't get dragged into any of the Jamie-related backlash, she is a true asset to the station and deserves to be treated as so. (I was a fan of Jamie when he joined Matt, but the announcement doesn't seem to have gone down well on socials).

I hope this is a bit of a stop-gap I suppose, and that Katie gets to break free from this trio not too far in the future - she is definitely worthy and deserving of her own show.

  5. I am really pleased for Dean that he is getting a show of his own. I'll be honest, I don't think I ever listened to his show when he was on weekends, and I know people have commented how much better he was then compared to when put on afternoons with Vicky (no shade to Vicky here).

I used to be up at the crack of dawn, early enough to listen to early breakfast, and the style and tone of presenter is so important at that time in the morning.  When Dean has covered Greg on breakfast this year, I think he could be the perfect fit to lift the mood of the early morning listeners.

Can't help but feel there is a demotion there, of course - but a fresh start for him to hopefully put the controversy of 'taking over from Scott' behind him, and show his own worth as a presenter in his own right.

  6. Given the announcement of Jamie joining Vick, stating how popular he was with the younger listeners, I can’t help but wonder what the announcement for Matt & Mollie is going to be?

I’m ‘too old’ for R1, so it has me wondering whether they are either finally realising the value of experienced presenters, or clutching at straws because the ship is sinking?

I seem to recall some on here not huge fans of the Matt & Mollie pairing during the Weekend Breakfast days and certainly the Dev & Alice pairing seemed the slightly more popular of the pairings created in 2018.

But the move to afternoons seemed to signal a real turnaround and it's a cracking show - has that 'Scott and Chris' type feel to it and has often had me in tears of laughter. Fajitagate in particular remains one of my favourite Radio 1 moments on any show

Fajitagate was one of the things that made me pay attention, their shows have such comedy gold and a tasteful amount of innuendo thrown in, I find them so funny. They are definitely up there at Scott & Chris territory I think.

  8. This would makes sense in correlation with Mollie's cycling challenge too. I heard the announcement this morning and thought it almost odd, because it's usually a weekday presenter doing the charity challenge - so maybe this change has been in the pipeline for longer than expected (I suppose around the time that the bosses found out Jordan intended to leave)

  9. I agree with weekends being stronger than weekdays lately, for sure.  I don't have hugely strong opinions music-wise, in fact the dancey-ness of the weekends (starting with Friday) is what tends to put me off more than anything. Followed by any throw backs to the kind of Kaiser Chiefs era. But I can make my peace with that if the presenter is a good listen.

It's the presenters I find that are the strongest on the weekends at the moment. I'm not up early enough for early breakfast these days, so I can't comment there - but Greg on breakfast, followed by Katie, followed by Matt & Mollie on a Friday is seamlessly great listening. It's let down by the chart in my opinon, because Jack is just too intense and serious for my liking. I understand the job he's trying to do, but everyone's 'locked in' and his chart voice is almost a parody of presenters gone by (when the chart was the most exciting and meaningful event of the week)...

Saturday I am really growing to love Sam and Danni - although same as past conversations, I wish their show had more structure, and/or features. Katie again, brilliant listen. Followed by Matt & Mollie. Great day of listening.

It falls down a bit on Sundays for me because although I don't listen all day every day, I'm more of a morning to afternoon listener, and I don't enjoy Nat's show at all, no matter how many times I have tried.

Compared to weekdays, the weekend presenter line-up is so much better. RMC, Dean and Vicky, Vick and Jamie, are just not at the level to be carrying this station at the moment. So it will be very interesting to see what changes are on the way given the new rumours that Matt & Mollie are headed for weekdays

  10. This is very interesting if true! After the recent talk here about weekends being stronger than weekdays (which I completely agree with), maybe things are shifting for the better.

I'll be the first to admit that back when Scott and Chris were still on R1, I didn't rate Matt & Mollie all that much. I didn't really give them a chance, but given all of the changes and the (sometimes poor) quality of the offering in recent years on weekdays, I am a massive convert.  I love their show when I get to listen on weekends, so a move to weekdays is welcome news to me.

I can't help but feel for Dean in all of this, as I feel he has done himself proud with his breakfast cover this year so far, and proved that he is better than the gig/set-up he was given maybe... I hope there is still a place and opportunity for him.

I wonder if they might be giving Jordan a goodbye show on Monday, it’s the only day that still has the Vick and Jordan picture, why would they have changed all the others and left that one?

Ooh that's interesting that they left the pic up for Monday... I hope he gets a final show. Even if he is moving to a rival show, it really would seem like more has gone on if he doesn't get to say goodbye, and Jordan doesn't strike me as the type to burn his bridges

  12. I am giving this way too much thought now... but the press release doesn't actually say Jordan is leaving. Or when. It just says they will be saying goodbye to him. And it just says Jamie will be joining Vick to co-host from the 4th March, not permanently...  It's all very fishy to me and not in keeping with their usual style of announcements surely?

The Big Brother comment made me think maybe Jordan is going to be on a temporary project elsewhere or something, maybe a charity challenge even

  13. Katie sounds really flustered to me which is what was making me suspicious, she might just be in shock if she has just found out Jordan is really leaving, but she sounded really shaky telling the story about the love hearts in the corner shop and I didn't really believe it...

Plus it's been over an hour and I haven't seen any tributes from colleagues or Vick hasn't posted anything about being excited to work with Jamie - I wonder if there will be any clues in the Going Home podcast when it drops later?

I’m still in the something to do with mega massive monday idea, for them to announce Jamie joining in a post before Jordan leaving; and even in two separate posts as well. Idk just seems different to last few announcements.

with Aleds comment now makes it bit more real, but still nothing from Jordan or Vick…

Part of me really wants this to be a prank. Nobody thought they would take the radio off air when they did the DJ hunt, but they did - so maybe the bosses are willing to take a risk to make a spectacle.

I may be clutching at straws, but Katie's current "web of lies" topic is making me suspicious, that this is all a web of lies that will be unravelled on Monday...

Jamie has posted on his Insta but the caption seems suspect to me, he may well be in on it - surely he has too many other projects going on to commit to a daily show? I really am just being hopeful right now that Jordan wouldn't leave

Remember Katie has her life in Manchester so a permanent move to London might not be an option.

But I'd have been happy with her as a replacement. Jamie I find unlistenable.

I don't mind Jamie all that much, but together with Vick I think it will be a giggle-fest and I'm not sure I could listen to that. I liked Jamie with Matt though.

If Aled says Jamie was popular with the younger listeners then that explains a lot I suppose.

  16. Yeah I suppose it does look too official to be a prank... and they wouldn't announce a replacement if it were all false I guess. It just seems hard to believe.  And hard to understand why it wouldn't be Katie instead of Jamie - unless she turned it down
