  1. I personally still think it was the way it was said rather than what was said. To show up drunk is unprofessional, and to interrupt and disrespect a colleague while they are trying to present a show is rude. Scott used to champion some awfully questionable pop songs, just for the fun of it. Rebecca Black - Friday being one example. It was a terrible song, but it was a laugh. Chris would also often throw subtle shade at Scott's bangers choices, so negative opinions on songs are definitely allowed, but I think Arielle's tone was out of order and brought down the mood of what Charlie was trying to make an uplifting dance show and a cheesey fun song that she wanted to play. Even Zane Lowe respected Scott's love for cheesey pop so much that he had a hand in the whole playing out the entire Britney album stunt, I'm sure that music wasn't to Zane's taste, but then nobody was asking him to play it on his show.
  2. Wow, thank you - not wanting to take this off topic but love the 1998 BBC vibe giving a mix of professional look with tabloid-style headline! ?
  3. I’m intrigued, what happened with Lisa I’anson?
  4. I wonder what Greg or Scott would have done… those are the two that I hold both in high esteem and also with totally different approaches. I think Scott would have played a song. Greg might embrace the chaos a bit more. I think Charlie did the best she could caught off guard
  5. That sounds fair, I suppose Charlie expected a friendly drop-in from a fellow presenter. I thought she handled it very well too, though you could hear she was annoyed
  6. You could hear her shouting after Charlie took her mic down, but I would say it was pretty irresponsible of whoever let her on air in the first place if she was clearly drunk. Could have been worse. Nothing on the scale of Scott after the brits - I always wondered why the producers let him do that show, is it just that times have changed?
  7. Saw on a fb group that Arielle turned up to Charlie Hedges’ Saturday show sounding a bit drunk slagging off one of the songs, anybody else hear? [Clip attached] Radio_1-2023-07-29_17-41-01.mp3
  8. Thanks Jono, I hadn’t noticed the Q&A episode. Great for new listeners, it’ can be difficult to get into a podcast this far down the line, and there were things in there that I hadn’t heard before too
  9. This just reminded me of the time a caller said 'I've reached the point of lockdown where I'm starting to fancy Chris' and I was completely in agreement with her! ? But Chris isn't there anymore... so it's Greg for me.
  10. This has been one of my favourite types of Summer games so far. As mentioned above, it’s quite relaxed, and nice to hear so many different presenters involved and interacting in different ways. I appreciate that something like this has to be co-ordinated and therefore ‘staged’ to a certain extent, but it feels a lot less contrived than some of the previous years events. Just seems like a fairly wholesome bit of chaos for everyone to engage with so far, which has been fun I think.
  11. … when somebody says the name Julio Bashmore and you have to say ‘I bet he does’
  12. ...you can't hear a mention of Ke$ha without wondering who boffed her.
  13. Wow. I watched that one and I have only just made the connection that Adele from big brother is our Adele from Radio1!
  14. Greg said the interview with Elton would be up on iplayer too, crazy how he's still headlining festivals and getting so much time on R1, what a career
  15. I'm intrigued why they've taken it down, I'll have to have another listen myself. I've just messaged back ?
  16. For some reason when I'm on my laptop I can only see it at the top of the page when I'm viewing a thread, not on the main forum page. It's there on my mobile though, so not sure if it's just me
  17. I personally don't feel like there's any particular successful formula for a good/well liked DJ. Others may have slicker formats and cleverly put together games on paper, but that doesn't make Greg's show any less impressive in my eyes. This isn't me being overly defensive of Greg, but I like how he embraces the unpredictability of having live callers and that can be all the fun that's needed. Songs, silly games, let's face it, who is awake enough to play mastermind style games at 7am? I like how he makes sure even the highest ranking celebrities are all levelled by the kind of features that get people talking - unpopular opinions, ask the nations, it was always meant to be about the listener. If I'm not mistaken, I think 'what are you having for your tea' was an off the cuff idea that got so much interaction from the listeners that Vick & Jordan decided to keep it (I'm aware there's more to it than that), but I just think relatability goes a long way, it's why I listen anyway.
  18. Hi, welcome! I downloaded all of them from BBC sounds at the time, and I have a podcast listed as from the 10th August, called feet and pasties - not sure why it's missing now, but I would be happy to send it to you if you like?
  19. If that clip is anything to go by, this could be a very tame comeback... ? For it to get so many mentions now though it does feel like it could be in the pipeline
  20. I would be very intrigued to see how innuendo bingo would go down on R2!
  21. If Shania Twain is getting airtime I don’t see how the ageist/sexist argument has any leg to stand on, although people will still criticise. IMO the Kylie track isn’t in line with R1’s current style… much as it’s a good catchy song
  22. I've been listening for the last few years, it does make me chuckle. I love the weekly Youtube recorded version too. I think Gregor Davidson when he was on early breakfast last week got done with a very sneaky 'Wendy - Can I borrow your potato peeler'. He was asking for random nicknames for peoples' neighbours, and a texter said they called their neighbour Maris because she came around to borrow a potato peeler, and later they found out she was called Wendy ?
  23. I listened to the podcast for Jan 22nd 2020, and Chris was telling everyone to google Scott in hole in the wall ?
  24. ?? that would make sense, I didn’t think of that! I might dig out the podcast and have a listen
  25. Wow 19 years!! that's amazing, congrats Jono ? The stats listed on the forum say the most users online was on January 22nd 2020. Does anyone remember what was going on that day, was there an event or a big announcement happening?
