Oooh good topic! I’ve voted for ‘Going Home’ and ‘Matt and Mollie.’ I think both of those shows sound very fresh, always absolutely full of content and both duos bounce off each other very well (and I’ll include Katie in Going Home too since she’s a big part of it). I think Greg is still sounding great, but maybe coming towards the end of his time on breakfast, same with Arielle on early breakfast too - is a very good presenter but how long will she really want to keep doing early starts for. I’d say RMC is the most improved show of the year, having listened more in the last few weeks, it now has some new features, it seems like they get more time to talk in the links and altogether it just feels a bit less rushed and more what I would have expected their show to be like from the beginning. Dean and Vicky I very rarely listen to now - I don’t think they’re an awful pairing but they don’t gel together particularly well and I think it’s quite telling when I prefer Vicky with any other co-host and Dean presenting on his own. I also think the production and features on the show feels quite cheap, especially coming after Scott Mills. I think weekends are pretty solid though, at the moment I wouldn’t change any of the presenters there. Katie (and Matt and Mollie) deserve promotions at some point, when and where they will come from, I’m not sure.

I assume it will be 100 songs and they’ll skip over some of them to play about 65 in the end! Even on a 3 hour show nowadays it’s usually around 48 songs and that’s with content wrapped around it

Also the producer of the podcast is Will Foster - the old producer of Grimmy and Greg’s breakfast shows!

Honestly I think it might be you showing your age a bit, I’m sorry to say. I’m 20 so right in the middle of radio 1’s 15-24 target demographic and so I was born in 2002. I wasn’t actively listening to and enjoying music until the late 2000’s, early 2010’s so I think Radio 1 10’s sounds right on brand and the type of thing Radio 1 should be doing. Ever since it started I have thought that 00’s has sounded a bit old for the station.

Dean and Vicky both seem to have had a lot of time off recently - they seem to have both saved up holidays to the summer!

Probably because they’re now on Monday-Thursday which didn’t seem planned when they were initially on Sunday’s schedule

I can’t believe that they’ll just have RMC on for under 2 hours! I’d guess that maybe them and Dean and Vicky will be on some kind of rotation through the summer?

I’m guessing it’s cause she’ll be in Ibiza most of the summer?

Apparently Gary Davies is in for Zoe for 3 weeks from that date. He’ll have been on weekdays for 13 consecutive weeks by the end of that having done the mid-morning show up until that point too.

Richie Anderson is also in for Dermot next week! Don’t think he’s covered that show before - hasn’t he just done Holiday specials and covered for Rylan?

It’s probably just that she has annual leave to use up (but not everyday for the next few weeks) so instead it’s easier for her to just have to get up early 2 days a week instead of 4 for a bit

Is Jamie off that day I wonder? Or are they trying him solo on the afternoon show?

Obviously it might just be that OJ wants to go down to 4 days a week but I wonder if the Sunday morning Steve Wright slot becomes free (as it’s rumoured to be) OJ might be in with a shout of launching a Sunday breakfast show?

I’d guess Liverpool to tie into Eurovision? It’s a shame it’s up there again though - thought it would go to Scotland again really.

We’ve got Jamie Laing doing the breakfast show for a week? Oh dear, feels a very radio 2 move rather than R1. Looking at who’s on that week it would have made the most sense to either put Katie and Jordan on breakfast and then Matt and Jamie on drive or Jordan on breakfast and Katie doing drive both single-handedly

Dean and Vicky are off next week so Katie is covering them. She was meant to be on with Jordan so he’s now hosting next week solo apart from Tuesday when he’s off so Jack Saunders is on Going Home. Then the week after Katie joins Jordan again

You can really tell it’s peak summer holiday season! It will be nice to hear Jordan solo again - I don’t think that’s happened since NYE! Who is Ifan Davies? I recognise the name but not sure where? Was he one of last year’s Christmas presenters?

Nope - Ben Coley is hosting Early Breakfast and he’s the August Friday presenter so just starting early. They seem to do everything possible now to avoid people double shifting which I think is definitely a good thing

I think the Rock Show is on anyway isn’t it? It only says 1xtra are taking the Sunday evening show, not simulcasting with R1?

That’s a very long time that Clara will be off for. I wonder if it’s for that same show she filmed around this time last year. I seem to remember she was off her daytime show for about 3 weeks with Adele Roberts covering!

That’s not good reading for Radio 1 there! And especially Greg James - I think that’s lower than Grimmy ever went sadly so not quite sure what’s going on. And Aled’s quote about lockdowns affecting their performance has confused me somewhat too, there hasn’t been any lockdowns for over a year now!

That’s a very good point actually - I wouldn’t be surprised if Jordan is a part of that in the summer. However that would be a whole chunk of time off at once rather than every 3 weeks ish which is what Jordan seems to be doing at the moment!
