  1. Happy birthday! That handball woman looks alarmingly red in the face.
  2. I went to the Peak District today on a field trip. It was lovely and warm and sunny. Most of it wasn't terribly exciting but at lunch time we went to a nice place with a cafe and some very tame ducks. Having tried to steal someone's bag of sandwiches, this duck was happy to sit on my friend's foot and be fed. I love ducks so it was good fun having ones so tame that they would actually climb on people. What also rocks is no more silly early mornings this week (as far as I know) so I have a chance to get some sleep.
  3. Who's taking over? Hopefully not Dave Berry. I can't stand him. I wish he'd give up too.
  4. Hehe well done Nati. I am still happy when I don't get ID'd. Sunshine I am quite sunburned though. Today I went to campus because I thought I had a lecture at 10am, however the lecturer didn't turn up. So I did a few sort of useful things, went to the library, saw a careers advisor. At midday I went outside to sit on the hill above the lake with Strongbow Boy and eat lunch. At 4:30pm we were still there. I did buy some suncream part way through but I have managed to catch the sun unfortunately. At least now I have some suncream in my bag so I shouldn't get caught out again. Tomorrow I have a field trip and it'll be sunny for it. Life is good, even though I have done no work in ages.
  5. I went out last night with some friends, we had some drinks here then went to Rock City and danced the night away. I tried Apple Sourz for the first time which made me quite hyper, probably all the sugar. We stayed till the end then got the bus home at 3:20am. This morning I woke up at 10am not feeling great but managed to get back to sleep and felt better when I woke up again. I wrote an essay plan so now I finally know where I'm going with it. Then my friend and I decided it was too nice to sit inside staring at laptop screens so we went to the big park near here and played frisbee and ate ice creams.
  6. My sister's found out she won't be getting any incapacity benefit because apparently she's not ill enough. Stupid government. I've got an essay to write but still don't know where I'm going with it. Currently trying to bring myself to read some books about international water law. My first exam is a month today and I'm procrastinating like mad. I cycled to campus to get the books and the chain came off my bike on the way back when I changed gear, so I got covered in black grease getting the damn thing back on. Stupid bike.
  7. Risk assessments are horrible things to have to write. The one I wrote for my dissertation made me afraid of leaving the house, what with the minor risk of death every time I go near a road. Sadly though, as Steph says, they have to do this for fear of being sued.
  8. Good Actual Mornin'! to that statement.
  9. Not watching it any more as housemate now wants to watch Big Bang Theory. The seals and penguins ones sound more interesting though. I noticed last night that BBCFour had a historical documentary about dairy farming. I guess BBC Three is trying to do the dumbed down version of a farming documentary for the 'reality TV' generation.
  10. Yeah, the woman is rubbish. She's just observing the pigs and complaining a lot. Awesome - pig noise woman. Could get some good sound clips out of this, them pretending to be pigs. This is very degrading, I guess this guy's only doing it because he's an actor.
  11. The woman's getting an easier option and she still isn't getting stuck in. She's cheating, hasn't really spent any time with them. The man looks like he's eating horrible things and he's sucking their ears and having his ears sucked. I don't know why I'm watching this. My housemate thought it would be good so I'll blame him.
  12. There certainly are, and the nameless, faceless world of commenting on the online news is where they love to express their angry views. I think my dad expected a negative reaction though so I doubt he's too concerned. He's just glad it's not his job any more (he's retired), having dealt with the Stephen Lawrence case when he worked for the PCA and then the Jean Charles de Menezes case. I wouldn't be surprised if they rebrand the IPCC again in the not so distant future, it seems to be a popular tactic of this Government.
  13. Wondering what people think, given the recent developments, about the IPCC's involvement, and the IPCC in general. In mind of this comment piece from today's Guardian (my dad did write it, but still, I'm generally interested) and the comments below it by members of the public: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/apr/16/ipcc-police-protests Essentially he's trying to defend the actions/apparent inactions of the IPCC, such as the fact that they asked The Guardian to take down the video of Mr Tomlinson getting hit by a police officer and that they didn't interview that police officer immediately. The people commenting seem to want some kind of instant justice but so far this has been trial by media for the police officer(s). No matter how damning that video evidence is, it is important to find out whether it's a case of assault or manslaughter. What are people's thoughts on the handling of this incident and the Met police in general? Is the IPCC the correct way to deal with complaints against the police or is something different needed? (Prior to becoming the Independent Police Complaints Commission in 2004, it was the Civil Service run Police Complaints Authority.)
  14. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7998334.stm this story made me wonder whether the Government have been watching Shameless. Reminds me of the opening bit about taxpayers funding their drug habits.
  15. Lovely... reminds me of when I was a baby I apparently stuck a piece of Christmas tree up my nose. I was coughing up blood and they took me to hospital and did X-rays but couldn't work out what was wrong. Then apparently I sneezed and a piece of Christmas tree came out. My parents love telling me that story. And anyone else if they feel like embarrassing me. Odd that it actually managed to grow inside him. Maybe his lungs produce light or something. I suppose there'd be plenty of CO2 around.
  16. Yes, it reminded me of Trainspotting a lot. I'm slowly learning who's who and understanding more. My friend has the DVDs of the early series, when I'm finished with uni I'll borrow them and understand more.
  17. I was thinking that you might struggle to find pumpkins at this time of year to celebrate Halloween properly. Sounds like a mix of Halloween and the Guy Fawkes "penny for the guy" tradition.
  18. Have a really good time What rocks is going back to Uni on Wednesday. We've already planned some nights out. Also I've found a couple of Masters courses that look interesting and would lead into some relatively interesting sounding jobs, so maybe I'm not destined to sell the Big Issue after all.
  19. I haven't been to sleep before 4am in about a week now and I keep waking up early too. I feel terrible but just can't sleep. Hopefully it'll change when I get back to Nottingham.
  20. Happy birthday! Hope you have a really good one. Sounds like you had a great party already, hope your birthday is a great day too
  21. Surely a Flake is just chocolate though? The egg is just normal Dairy Milk chocolate anyway. Give the Flake bars to someone else. What sucks is that I don't want to leave uni and I don't know what I want to do next. I'm pretty sure that it won't involve moving back in with my parents. Leaving home won't be easy and neither will finding a job, but my parents are trying to tell me what I want to do and that's no good at all in the long term.
  22. That sounds hilarious. They could at least post it online for us to enjoy in our own time. They've already spent the money anyway. Even more of a waste to then not use it. Gothic costumes and wild animals do sound like a great laugh.
  23. Ah, yes, I remember that. I've got cards for my family and Easter biscuits for my parents and a Wispa egg for my sister. I don't know what's so special about the Easter biscuits, but Marks and Spencer said they're Easter-related (and I can eat them) and my parents claim they don't eat chocolate (they do).
  24. I also need my money (it's my escape my parents fund) but I was feeling generous. Happy Easter Unofficial Mills -- spend it wisely!
  25. Are you talking about yourself in the third person plural there Jono?
