It doesn't help that they now shorten some songs so they can squeeze in even more of the 'popular hits'. 
And they've definitely upped the music quotas (again), Scott has to play a song in the middle of Real or No Real now and it's been cut down to 3 facts instead of 4. Today there was only 2 facts because he spoke to Greg for too long - Greg goes "I feel short changed, isn't there normally 3?" to which Scott responded "yes but I've got to play the hits". Sounds like they've definitely been told to play more songs / not drop them.

I know streaming has caused the chart to have songs hanging around for such a long time and radio 1 needs to reflect the songs in the chart but I am so sick that songs seem to stay on the playlist for ages! I really like rag and bone man but if I hear human again I will scream! 

Or move newsbeat to 7 and have Danny Howard playing dance anthems until 8 then a more free variety from 8.

Totally agree, one of the most important shows on the station squished into the smallest slot. Get rid of or delay dance anthems or the news and go through the whole chart like the Jameela Jamil days.

You can't rely on the younger generation to fill the void though. People 10 - 15 years younger than me do exactly as stated above, use technology to get what music they want when they want. They don't understand what a radio show is, because there's never been one in their world. My coming of age was probably from 1997 - 2005, and we had radio and music channels. That was it. Things are a world apart today.
Radio 1 need to extend their age range to people from as early as possible to under 40. Look at it this way. I've felt alienated from Radio 1 since about 2009, and as of 2017 I'm 28 years old. I've tried Radio 2 but their local radio feel, and playing past it artists on their A & B playlists like Status Quo and Rod Stewart just doesn't cut it for me. It's a couple of genetations away, ABBA and Depeche Mode aren't my era.
The only few I can tolerate is Simon Mayo, Sara Cox, Jo Wiley and Mark Radcliffe (if he's not doing the folk show and covering a daytime slot). And that's just presenter wise, the entire feel of the station is just 'sod anyone who was born after 1980'. And otherwise for Radio 1 is 'screw anyone who was born before '97'. That's a big gap and as I've said on here loads of times someone has to fill it. Because 25-40 is the youngest generation who seems to use Radio whatsoever.
 
Looking at the comments on Radio 2's facebook page and the bitching towards anyone my age, it's no wonder we don't cross over.

Sorry got timings wrong, 3 two hour shows in the evening giving more time for music on stories and surgery and longer shows for Danny and Charlie. This pushes back Phil Taggart to later for a more relaxing show after a night out.
As for MistaJam and the 1Xtra takeover, if you want that just switch over to 1Xtra.
ICYMI would be a show similar to Chris on IPlayer with a Sunday evening recap of key moments in the last week replayed.

On a slightly related note, would anyone know where you can obtain a Moyles mug from, either Radio X or Radio 1 branded? I want one to add to my (very) small collection of TV/ Radio Merchandise?  If anyone happens to know or possibly have one they wouldn't mind sending , drop me a line.

I did hear that idea where Scott leaves two listeners on the phone together and they have to awkwardly chat to each other like they're on a date on Will Manning's show first tbf. Anyway, it happens all the time in the radio industry where ideas are "borrowed" 

Will Manning just wished Ed Sheeran a happy birthday, and played that clip of the slightly rubbish happy birthday trumpet Scott plays.

Ah, good. Yes. Many good points made here. Nick is doing a good job at doing what he's been asked to do, but unfortunately the show does seem to be lacking that "show" element - it feels like he doesn't put a lot of effort into what he's doing on air. He'll often be at the studios at 6:15, and be gone by half ten.
Whereas presenters like Greg and even his Capital competitor Will Manning arrive at more like 1pm and stay until 8pm. 
Nick doesn't seem to enjoy radio from a radio point of view. I don't know where I'm going with that, but it's a thought nontheless. 

I've been through some of the other albums and come across some others I've heard used on Dev's and Scott's shows. Good stuff
Currently searching for a backing that Greg James occasionally uses near the start of his shows, quite an upbeat one but I haven't heard it for a few weeks.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find the track that Scott uses whilst he chats to the caller during bangers? I've tried looking around for it but am unsure whether it's something made in house or something they obtained elsewhere. Anyway, if anyone knows then I would appreciate it

The only intros that sound good are the ones with Mike Wooller. The rest of the imaging isn't a clear, simple theme. We have mixes thrown about of all sorts that make it sound like a different station between most songs. The length of time it took to introduce these, and the "creeping in" is just highly unprofessional for a national station, nearly a year!  The radio industry might want to go this way with power intros, but they really don't suit the station. They've tried too hard and ballsed it up. The breakfast show idents have been ruined too.

Well firstly, he doesn't work for BBC News so the need to be balanced isn't as important and the things he posts on social media are to try and make positive cases to his followers as well as being funny so can't see anything wrong with that. Not like he's slagging off Theresa May or being really political- it's his private account anyway.
Secondly, I would put money on Greg not being the new Capital Breakfast host. I'd say it'll be Will Manning or Roman Kemp- two brilliant presenters Capital already have who would be perfect for the target audience and would fit in with George and Lilah. Greg's style is just SO different to Capital- his games, features, chats with Chris Smith, use of language and expression etc wouldn't go with the Capital style. He has so much freedom on Radio 1, gets to do other things like Children in Need, the Gregathlon and has been allowed to take the BT Sport cricket job (if he took Capital Breakfast, he'd have to quit the cricket job because most of it's in the middle of the night). And of course, he's probably next in line for the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Really can't see it happening

I'm a regular listener to X. Loved Phil's Evening Show bit he has vanished. Gordon Smart took over the show last month. No announcement on where Phil would move to and his social media feeds have gone quiet. Vwry bizarre. But R1 Breakfast as much as I like him. He has no chance. Specialist show maybe?

I expect it'll probably be someone like Roman Kemp taking over, Greg's a bit of a long shot cause his style of broadcasting is nothing like Capital's. Can't see why he'd give up the relative freedom he has on Radio 1, the bigger station in terms of listeners and prestige, and his dream job, to go to commercial radio.
Unless all the obscure rumours are coming together and R1 offered breakfast to Phil Clifton meaning Greg got the hump and buggered off to Global to get his hands on a breakfast show.

Seems unlikely, for several reasons.
1) He'd be an external appointment. Radio 1 tend not to bring in people from outside to host the breakfast show unless they're very well known, and even then, they haven't done so since the mid-nineties (Chris Evans and Zoe Ball being the two most recent, and even Zoe was paired up with Kevin Greening who was doing drive prior to the breakfast show). Phil is pretty much a non-entity, all he's done outside of X is a bit of stuff for Channel 4 and MTV, so why they'd pluck him out of obscurity for the Radio 1 Breakfast Show is beyond me.
2) He's 32. Enough said.
3) He's never done personality radio before. X probably let him show a bit of personality, but nothing close to the levels required for filling 17.5 hours a week. He's got no experience, so hiring him for that show would be a big risk (unless they were going for a more music breakfast show, but look how well that worked out during Grimshaw's tenure).
4) It's replacing like for like. Grimmy is a trendy hipster-like bloke from the north. Phil Clifton is a trendy hipster-like bloke from north. Chris Moyles even went as far as describing Phil Clifton as a "crap Grimmy" once.
5) The Wikipedia edit has very crude attention to detail. "He Left Radio x in December 2016 so he take over from Nick Grimshaw on The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show. He will be Presenting the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show From April 2017." Seems more like a (very obscure) fraudulent edit than an accidental premature leak of inside information.
Then again, Ben Cooper does have a tendency to make unexpected (read: poor) decisions, so who knows.

During that chat, I seem to remember Chris saying someone on Radio 1 was nicking features that they weren't happy about and the only feature I could think of was the rubbish version of Bangers on the breakfast show.

I see that Cel Spellman's show is being screwed around with from this week. The Number 1 Show is no more with it being replaced with R1 Most Played from 6pm and there is a brand new show called R1's Best New Pop.
I wonder what everyone thinks of this? Personally I really don't think we need yet another most played show as we already have one for the evening show, quite like the idea about R1's Best New Pop show although wouldn't it be better for any other DJ on R1 just to play all this stuff? Think Cel's show is a waste of time really...
