Sara Cox’s husband gets an apology from AI after its “halfway” pub plan goes wrong

The Sara Cox Breakfast ShowRecap of the show on

Sara Cox started the week admitting the family had trusted AI with their Sunday plans, and it hadn't gone well. Husband Ben asked an AI app to find a country pub halfway between their home in north-west London and friends in Kent. When Sara checked the route on Google Maps, she found her family would have been driving for an hour and 45 minutes while their friends had a 25-minute trip.

Ben went back to the app to complain and got an apology: "You're right, Ben, sorry about that." They ended up at the Black Swan in Ockham, just off the A3, and Sara's verdict was simple: "Don't trust the robots."

Car Park Karaoke was back, with three listeners singing live from car parks for the nation's vote. Michelle, an equine technician, sang It's Raining Men from a stables car park, saying she was hoping for a record deal "because I didn't get the afternoon job". Amy sang from the car park of the Loft Theatre in Leamington Spa on her way to paint scenery. Matthew, a learning support assistant and maths tutor, sang Take On Me from Hereford Sixth Form College.

Matthew's high notes won it. Sara got him out of his car in the drizzle to sing Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams as his victory performance, while students wandered past.

Travel presenter Ellie Brennan was gearing up for her first adult tap class at Pineapple Studios that evening. She admitted she'd only been able to book onto the advanced beginners' class and that her old leotard no longer fits. She also remembered that the last time she went tap dancing, she broke her ankle. One listener asked her to go in "full tucks and spats".

The morning's running theme was people forgetting their own age. Trish said her husband Matt thought he was 36 when he was 37, then felt cheated when he turned 38. Another listener said her 37-year-old son was convinced he was 38. Sara also tied herself in knots explaining what the mornings will look like after the clocks go back, with help from Dorothy in Guisborough.

Donny Osmond is on the show tomorrow.
