Greg James spends the first ten minutes blaming a mystery sick smell on the studio vacuum cleaner

Radio 1 BreakfastRecap of the show on

Moondays Radio 1 Breakfast Show started with Greg James convinced something had gone horribly wrong in the studio. "Smells of sick in here," he said, before ruling out his team and eventually accepting a listener's theory that the culprit was an unemptied vacuum cleaner bag rather than anything more sinister.

The main event was an early Halloween "Is It Just Us", with radio producer Sam from East Sussex revealing his family's tradition of a Halloween dinner built from "a mashed potato castle, sausage turrets and a baked bean moat". Listeners flooded in with their own bizarre versions, including Liam's family "Banger Banger Island" – beans as the sea, mash as the island and sausages as "palm trees" – and Molly's family dish of "blood guts and eyeballs", spaghetti with meatballs hollowed out to look like eyes. Greg ruled that Sam's exact creation was unique, telling him, "there might be nobody that does this… but I do think people would want this to happen."

Space got a Halloween-ish look-in too, with stand-in expert "Sean Moondays" explaining a Japanese mission launching to scoop soil from Mars' moon Phobos and bring it back to Earth, joking that tonight really is the night "we steal the moon".

Bride-to-be Chloe returned to host the first of this week's Wedding Week quiz team, scoring 15 points and revealing her groom Kyle had turned down the chance to take part later in the week.

Jamie Miller also spoke about his dad, an Uber driver in Cardiff, plugging his son's music to passengers, while Mollie King was heard attempting his viral dance.
