Sara Cox spent much of Friday’s Fri-YAY show buzzing about a trip “into the depths of the countryside” to interview Dame Judi Dench about her new memoir, after also recording with Dame Emma Thompson. The best bit, Sara said, was not telling her driver Colin whose house they were visiting: he popped in to use the loo and came face to face with Dame Judi herself. “Can I just say I’m a huge fan of yours,” Colin reportedly told her, before she chatted to him for ten minutes. Sara promised listeners the full interview, complete with “a swanee whistle and a kazoo”, next week.

Hollywood came to the breakfast sofa too, with Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams and Taika Waititi in to discuss their new film Klara And The Sun. Waititi revealed he found the Kazuo Ishiguro novel at an airport and knew instantly he had to adapt it, while Adams and Ortega swapped stories about filming in wheat fields “like a pillow” for the falls. The trio also reminisced about shooting partly in New Zealand, including a trip to the late Sam Neill’s farm for home-made lavender oil.
Traitors fans got their fix too, with Hannah Fry phoning in the morning after her banishment to admit she went in as a desperate faithful, armed with spreadsheets, only to be unmasked as a traitor: “I’ve basically got the emotional strength of a door mouse.”
