There was apparently a celebrity shortcut to getting a table
Scott and Chris heard about somebody who travelled regularly for work and had developed a questionable restaurant-booking technique.
Whenever he arrived in a new place, he would search for celebrities associated with the area and book the restaurant under one of their names.
The theory was that a local celebrity might be given a better table or receive more attention than an unknown customer.
The important detail was not to choose somebody impossibly famous.
Nobody was likely to believe Harry Styles had suddenly phoned for a table under his own name.
A recognisable local broadcaster or personality was much more plausible.
That inevitably led to the question of whether “Scott Mills” was exactly the sort of name somebody might borrow.
Innuendo Bingo needed medical approval
The bigger project was the attempt to bring back Innuendo Bingo.
Scott and Chris had concluded that the old version, where Chris and a celebrity sat opposite one another spraying mouthfuls of water directly across the studio, could not simply restart unchanged.
Their proposed solution involved two separate transparent Perspex boxes.
Each person would put their head inside one.
They could still spit out water when the clips made them laugh, but they would not spray directly into each other’s faces.
There was one final requirement.
They wanted a doctor to approve it.
Dr Alex George signed off the box
After failing to get several other famous doctors, the show reached Dr Alex George.
Alex reminded everyone that, despite becoming famous through Love Island, he was an actual qualified doctor.
He liked the idea of modernising the feature and was certainly happier with separate boxes than with Chris spraying water directly over somebody’s face.
The show talked through water levels, cross-contamination and whether the boxes were large enough to remain safe.
Scott then made Alex repeat an absurdly formal verbal statement confirming that Innuendo Bingo: The Box was COVID compliant and that celebrities should feel able to take part.
The return was getting very close.
