The songs people wrote at seven deserved a compilation

Chris was away on an agreed break, so Scott was joined by producer Helena for an afternoon built around the music people had created as children.

The inspiration came from hearing old material written by Tate McRae when she was very young.

Listeners began sending in their own compositions.

The quality varied wildly, which was exactly the point.

Rachel had written a song built around the rhyme between apple tart and fart.

Josh contributed a tribute to white goods which included the memorable idea of having a head like a washing machine.

Emily had written a deliberately ominous Creepy Scary Song.

Abby offered I Know My Cheese, covering varieties including Cheddar and Edam while acknowledging cheese could make your feet smell.

Heidi’s Toes in the Pan imagined somebody’s toes being fried like sausages and fed to a cat.

Helena then performed her own childhood composition, I Am Sad.

Scott treated the collection as though it deserved one of the great NOW compilation albums.

The big announcement was finally made

After days of discussion, Scott confirmed that Innuendo Bingo was coming back.

The feature would return the following Monday and run through the week.

The famous clips, mouthfuls of water and celebrity guests would remain.

The difference was the new doctor-approved Perspex boxes, separating Chris from the guest while still allowing both of them to soak themselves when they laughed.

After more than two years away, one of the show’s defining features was officially returning.

Lewis Capaldi supplied the Golden Moment

To celebrate, the programme went back to one of the most popular old editions.

Lewis Capaldi’s Innuendo Bingo had become the number-one episode in the BBC Sounds collection.

Hearing the old clips again made the timing of the announcement feel even bigger.

The feature had gone from an archive memory to something that would be live on Radio 1 again within days.
