24 January 2022: Granny Tinder returned with ghosting advice while Chris barbecued through COVID

Chris was back on air — but still at home

Chris had managed to avoid COVID for almost two years.

Then, at the end of the previous week, the test finally showed two lines.

He was feeling well enough to broadcast.

He simply could not come into Radio 1.

The remote setup felt oddly familiar after the previous couple of years.

Chris immediately found an advantage.

If he was broadcasting from home, he could run the barbecue at the same time.

A brisket had gone on at around six that morning.

Low and slow.

Scott joked it might be ready sometime around nine the following evening.

Chris was perfectly happy to provide barbecue updates throughout the programme.

Granny Tinder was back from Christmas

The transcript repeatedly introduces her as other people, including Laura Whitmore, but the speaker and context are unmistakably Lynette — Granny Tinder.

Scott and Chris had not spoken to her since before Christmas.

Lynette had spent time with her son and family.

The air fryer she had wanted for Christmas had not appeared as a gift, so she had simply bought one herself.

She had also been watching *The Crown* on Netflix.

Lynette enjoyed it while recognising that some scenes were necessarily imagined.

She had lived through much of the real period being dramatised.

That gave her a rather different perspective from Scott and Chris.

Granny Tinder still preferred the BBC

Scott tried explaining *The Masked Singer*.

Lynette had barely watched it.

ITV in general was not her natural home.

She preferred the BBC and began listing presenters she liked, including people from BBC Breakfast and weather.

Scott was delighted to turn Granny Tinder into an informal BBC audience panel before remembering she was actually there to swipe.

Sasha’s date disappeared to the toilet and never came back

The advice request came from Sasha.

She had been on a date with somebody she really liked.

Partway through, he went to the toilet.

Then he left.

His later explanation was that he had become horribly embarrassed by large sweat patches under his arms.

He had panicked and escaped.

Sasha was unsure whether to believe him.

Was he genuinely embarrassed?

Or was he simply mugging her off?

Lynette had no time for the excuse

Scott tried to offer the man some benefit of the doubt.

People panic.

Dating is awkward.

Sometimes someone makes a terrible decision and only afterwards realises how rude it looked.

Lynette’s response was much cleaner.

Do not lose sleep over him.

Leaving a person sitting in a restaurant without properly explaining yourself is poor behaviour whatever the reason.

Her verdict became:

muggy and sweaty — get rid.

Scott and Chris accepted the judgment.

Granny Tinder had returned exactly as she left.

TikTok was Lynette’s homework

Before she went, Scott set a task.

Download TikTok.

See what is on there.

Lynette knew Facebook because she used it to keep in touch with people.

TikTok and Instagram remained less familiar.

Scott was convinced she would find plenty to enjoy.

A future Granny Tinder technology lesson had been created.
