Adele tickets were almost impossible to improve
The next Jan Slam prize was enormous.
Tickets to see Adele at her sold-out Hyde Park shows.
Scott pointed out how difficult they had been to buy.
People had been online at ridiculous hours using multiple phones, tablets and laptops.
Radio 1 had a pair to give away.
That was already enough.
Then the prize description added something else:
unique framed artwork.
Scott immediately stopped caring about anything else.
What exactly did that mean?
The vague wording allowed Scott’s imagination to run wild
Was it art Adele had personally made?
Had she sat down with watercolours?
Was it a drawing from her son which had briefly lived on the fridge?
Was it simply a commemorative poster?
Scott asked the team for clarification.
The wording became:
unique commemorative artwork.
This explained almost nothing.
Scott therefore invented the best possible version himself.
Adele, personally creating a life drawing of friend Alan Carr.
Nude.
Holding fruit.
Framed.
That was the prize Scott now wanted to exist.
Scott started drawing the imagined artwork himself
The joke went far enough that Scott began making his own version.
If Adele was not going to draw a nude Alan Carr, Scott could at least sketch what he thought the artwork should look like.
Producer Amy even ordered an A4 frame so the drawing could be presented properly.
The actual Jan Slam prize was probably much more tasteful.
Scott’s imaginary version had already become more memorable.
Fraser travelled 166 miles for a hook-up
Hook-up Higher or Lower began with Fraser.
His random fact was that he could sing Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time in German.
He demonstrated.
The mileage:
166 miles.
That became the number for the next caller to beat.
Danielle went 473 miles to France after an Instagram connection
Danielle came in higher.
Around 473 miles.
She had met a man through Instagram and travelled to France to see him.
The relationship ended badly.
Danielle said the man later claimed to be in hospital and then effectively disappeared.
After some investigation she discovered he had a girlfriend.
Scott and Chris were shocked by how quickly a silly mileage game had turned into an elaborate ghosting story.
Calum spent a week with the family after travelling 350 miles
Then came Calum.
His journey was lower than Danielle’s but still substantial:
around 350 miles.
He had met a woman on a cruise.
They stayed in touch.
Later he travelled from South Wales towards Northern Ireland to see her.
What Scott found most unusual was not the distance.
It was the accommodation.
Calum stayed with the woman’s family for around a week.
The hookup had somehow become a family homestay.
Spare room.
Parents.
Household routine.
Scott thought it sounded more like an exchange programme than a casual romantic trip.
The Masked Singer went international
Don’t Look It Up explored versions of The Masked Singer from around the world.
Different countries had produced costumes even stranger than the British show.
Scott and Chris had to work out which bizarre characters genuinely existed.
After spending the first half of the programme discussing nude Alan Carr art, their standard for weirdness was already badly calibrated.
