28 September 2021: Mimi Webb reviewed Stay as grown adults proved they could still armpit fart

Mimi Webb had achieved her Live Lounge goal early

Mimi Webb joined after performing in the Live Lounge.

Her career had accelerated rapidly through a period when much of the music industry still operated through restrictions.

Reading and Leeds had been among her first proper large live shows.

She admitted she had stood behind the curtain worrying nobody would know who she was.

Then she heard people chanting her name.

One of the things on Mimi’s vision board had been doing a Live Lounge.

She thought it might take a year and a half.

It happened much sooner.

Scott reminded her that only months earlier she had pulled over at a service station and cried after hearing Radio 1 play her music.

Now she was reviewing a Live Lounge.

Mimi chose Stay for the self-review

Scott gave her a choice.

Review her own song 24/5.

Or listen back to her version of Stay by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber.

Mimi chose the cover because the arrangement had changed the original substantially.

It had been slowed down.

The piano opening was softer.

Backing vocals became much more important.

Unlike some artists, Mimi did not spend the whole review cringing.

She got increasingly excited.

She praised the arrangement.

The backing vocals.

The way the performance built.

Scott loved that she seemed to enjoy hearing the result rather than looking for every flaw.

Andy and Beth were straightforward lovers

Brother or Lover featured Andy and Beth.

This time the team did not overcomplicate the clues.

The pair sounded like a couple.

One answer about music effectively gave the game away.

Other clues included a chicken party and Andy’s job around a leisure centre.

Everybody locked in lovers.

The reveal confirmed it.

Andy and Beth were indeed a couple.

Beth was also celebrating her birthday.

For once, Brother or Lover had not successfully tricked the entire studio.

Armpit farting had no obvious adult cut-off

The previous day’s Who Game had made Scott insist armpit farting belonged to childhood.

Then Adam, 24, joined.

He had spent around 20 minutes practising before the call.

When the moment came, the noise still worked.

Scott was disgusted and impressed.

Then Jim, 28, claimed he could still do it too.

The search escalated.

Was there an 80-year-old listener somewhere still capable of producing the classic noise?

The show had accidentally turned one of the least useful childhood skills into a national age-record attempt.

Minute of Me prepared an environment special

Radio 1 was also preparing another Minute of Me, this time focused on the environment and climate change.

Young listeners around the world were being invited to record their experiences, worries and hopes for the future.

Scott and Chris contrasted the seriousness of that appeal with what had happened only minutes earlier.

Radio 1 could give young people a platform on climate change.

It could also investigate adult armpit farts.

Both apparently belonged in the same programme.
